GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting the Senior Staff Accountant in managing accounts receivable and period end reconciliation clean-up. The Staff Accountant will also serve as the backup for fixed assets, insurance, month-end close operations, and monitor/audit liaison for the Fiscal department. Other duties also include reviewing external reporting associated with revenue invoices for programs and reimbursement contracts.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manage and perform accounts receivable functions, particularly payment posting.
  2. Manage and perform weekly accounts receivable functions for directly operated center.
  3. Together with Development, manage and record donations received.
  4. Manage and process month-end reporting for grantors/funders.
  5. Manage and process prepaid expenses monthly.
  6. Pull documents for provider reviews and audits.

 

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Function as a backup for processing general ledger transactions.
  2. Function as a backup for managing and processing fixed assets.
  3. Prepare special accounting reports and analysis on an as-needed basis.
  4. Function as a backup to maintain current data with insurance companies to protect agency and program assets including liability, property, and vehicle and child accident coverage.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

  • This position reports to the Director of Finance.
 
Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with 3-5 years related experience.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices
  • Knowledge of computer systems pertaining to accounting and financial management
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products at an intermediate to advanced level
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and individuals
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in financial management
  • Attention to details and follow through
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well with others

 

LICENSES, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Certificates of acknowledgment required: Conflict of Interest, Code of Ethics, Confidentiality agreements, IT Systems and Security, Anti-Fraud, HR Employee Acknowledgement Form.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Works inside in an office/remote environment

 

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without correction)
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
