Description

Position Summary:

Reporting to the President and Executive Director, and working as a member of the RBAC's Executive Management Team, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) assists the Executive Director with corporate strategic planning and administration. The CFO is responsible for overseeing all financial planning operations, including general accounting, budgets, audits and other financial planning activities. Develop and oversee the management of financial policies, systems, insurance, and controls to protect the RBAC's assets and help to establish and achieve operating and financial goals and objectives. The CFO will also work closely with the RBAC's Chief Operational Officer and Associate Executive Director of Development and Grants.

This position provides direct supervision to salaried staff and hourly employees, as well as oversees the management of department budgets.

General Responsibilities:

Accounting and Audit

  • Oversee all aspects of accounting operations including transaction processing, credit analysis & accounts receivable collection, and financial reporting to Board of Directors
  • Preparation of financial information supporting the annual review and report
  • Maintain bank, audit firm, and related third-party relationships. Coordinate audit activities to ensure audit compliance, efficiency, and effectiveness
  • Create and sustain productive vendor, banking and contractual relationships and serve as primary liaison with related third parties
  • Prepare and routinely update long term financial plan, create ad hoc financial analyses, conduct financial and cash flow modeling
  • Manage long and short term investment accounts
  • Lead cash management efforts by monitoring and forecasting cash flow and providing guidance on actions needed to ensure sufficient liquidity to meet benefit, payroll, vendor, and other payment obligations
  • Develop plans to address areas of opportunity within the RBAC's financial health and financial processes
  • Oversee the maintenance of equipment inventory and the depreciation of all fixed assets; e.g. computers, pool equipment, etc.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
  • Direct preparation of annual budget.

Risk Management and Contracting

  • Work directly with RBAC insurance broker to provide risk analysis and appropriate insurance coverage for RBAC operations
  • Review patron, vendor and other business legal agreements for financial risk exposure and other business considerations and negotiate revisions to these agreements to minimize exposure
  • Establish purchasing and contracting policies and facilitating contracting process
 
Position Requirements

Board of Directors

  • Assist the Executive Director in developing and recommending policies, strategic initiatives and financial plans to the RBAC Board of Directors. Assist the Executive Director in consulting with patrons, boosters, City of Pasadena, and others as needed regarding the development and evaluation of financial goals of the RBAC
  • Provide reports and consultation to the Board of Directors on the financial status of the organization and provide recommendations as required. Participate in and make presentations at regular meetings and interactions with the Board of Directors
  • Assist in the development of RBAC policies, regulations, and guidelines
  • Serve as Executive Secretary to the Finance and Audit Committees.

Other:

  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Pursue ongoing personal professional development and awareness opportunities in each of the above responsibility areas to ensure the RBAC is a top performing Aquatics environment.

Qualifications:

Education:

Master’s degree in Business Administration, CPA or a related field, or equivalent experience preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional work experience in a senior financial management position. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in non-profit management.

  • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management
  • Knowledge of accounting
  • General knowledge of feedback assessment and marketing methods
  • Working knowledge of the principles of effective supervision, as well as the ability to plan and direct the work of professional, skilled and semi-skilled staff
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from financial reports and legal documents at a level sufficient to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job
  • Use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and implementing long-term financial plans
  • Ability to identify insurance needs relative to activities and risk levels
  • Collect, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal and/or written presentations
  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Create and implement ideas to develop and promote efficient operations
  • Negotiate and execute contracts
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patrons, and private and public agencies

  • Ability to develop and conduct workshops and training programs.

Working Conditions:

Work is generally performed in a temperature-controlled office environment. Some outdoor work (on deck) is possible involving potentially inclement weather conditions. Some travel required. Position requires regular contact with the public. Must be able to work under pressure, exercise sound judgment, and adhere to deadlines.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. Supervision Exercised: This position supervises full time salaried and hourly positions as well as part-time employees. FLSA Status: This classification is exempt from FLSA requirements.

Work Schedule:

Full-Time; 12 months

Anticipated Salary Range (Annually)

  • $90,000 – $125,000 depending upon experience
