Our ever-growing EMPOWER Recreation Program has added a new scope of work (Transition to Employment), creating an immediate opportunity for a Transition Coordinator to join their team.   • Represents program to parents, participants, potential staff, staff, stakeholders, etc.
  • Plans, facilitates, implements, and supervises the safe and therapeutic recreation of the program including field trips, scheduled activities, and daily programming.
  • Arranges for all program logistics and appropriate activity planning and implementation.
  • Ensures staff are trained on safety and emergency procedures, as well as how to assess environmental safety.
  • Develops a “Job Club” to develop participant’s skills in resume planning, interviewing, mock interviews, grooming, and other job skill-related activities.
  • Conducts interest inventories with participants.
  • Engages community businesses and develops relationships to foster job shadowing and internships.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of Transition Coaches providing supports. Ensures Transition Coaches are working appropriately scheduled hours.
  • Anticipates staffing needs and responds to schedule changes, taking the appropriate action to avoid problems.
  • Provides coaching and counseling to Transition Coaches and assists in preparation and delivery of performance reviews.
  • Assists in the recruitment and supervision directly and indirectly of all program participants.
  • Assists in the development of program publicity and disseminate information.
  • Assists with setting fundraising goals and implementing fundraising activities.
  • Assists with the routine administration of approved medications.
  • Promotes positive team and employee interaction and communication.
  • Assists the Director in the overall management of the program as needed.
  • Implements appropriate crisis response for any emergency, i.e. health or medically related, or an environmental emergency.
  • Drives van or company vehicle when needed to transport participants.
  • Assists with the ongoing evaluation of all programming, implementing corrective action as needed to improve operations considering participant needs/interests and with special regard to emerging rehabilitation or therapeutic philosophies as they apply to the program philosophy.
  • Assumes responsibilities of Director in their absence.
  • Follows and assures compliance with all Easter Seals Policies and Procedures.
  • Demonstrates Easter Seals valued behaviors of Accountability, Commitment, and Caring as appropriate to the position.
  • Protects the rights of those persons served and supports the right to dignity, humane care, and freedom from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and mistreatment.
  • Ensures completion of required training within prescribed timeframes.
  • Supervisory Responsibility: This position will assist with the supervision of Transition Coaches and may supervise Administrative Assistants in the absence of the Director.
Position Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an entity approved by USDOE or CHEA in recreation, special education, or related human service field preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with individuals enrolled in workplace readiness training and supported employment.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Must have a valid, unrestricted, state-appropriate driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance.
  • Must have reliable transportation that will allow movement throughout the program delivery area, and be willing to transport individuals receiving services as needed.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Measurable knowledge, skills, and experience in therapeutic programming and personal care assistance with populations of individuals with physical and/or cognitive disabilities.
  • Experience with personnel supervision, interpersonal relationships, discipline, training, and leadership.
  • Experience in teaching life skills and job readiness in a group and/or individual setting.
  • Experience in and ability to train staff in the implementation of recreational activities, personal care, activity adaptations, etc.
  • Ability to observe participant and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to supervise and communicate effectively with staff members in order to achieve a beneficial and therapeutic program.
  • Ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to specific activities.
  • Ability to analyze and provide assistance with activity and personnel problem areas.
