POSITION SUMMARY: The Desktop Support Specialist provides application support to users, departments and locations within Midwest Eye Consultants (MWEC). Responsibilities include installing, diagnosing, maintaining and upgrading software and application systems along with supporting users and teams in the best utilization of the systems. This person processes Help Desk calls in a timely and accurate manner and provides employee training and assistance as required.

 
Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installs, diagnose repairs, maintains and upgrades of software and application systems. This includes reviewing process flow and function of users to accomplish the desired task.
  • Provides employee training and assistance for application systems both new and existing, as required.
  • Maintains and correctly utilizes support ticketing systems to tracks and prioritize system issues.
  • Escalate issues to proper resources as appropriate.
  • Troubleshoots application system issues, in addition to associated peripheral equipment (signature pads, cameras, scanners) interacting with the application.
  • Coordinates with supervisor when outside support is needed.
  • Work with IT department to identify and isolate issues that encompass both software and hardware issues.
  • Rotates “on call” responsibilities, including rotation on nights and weekends as required.

  • Installs, diagnose repairs, maintains, and upgrades all hardware and software for all departments to ensure optimal workstation performance. This includes tracking, IT support, and maintenance on all computers.
  • Provides employee training and IT assistance as required.
  • Maintains and correctly utilizes support ticketing systems to tracks and prioritize system issues.

  • Coordinates with supervisor when outside support is needed
  • Maintains the Information Technology inventory in the server room as well as satellite administrative offices, which includes pictures of all devices and updated information on software and hardware pieces.
  • Maintains and retains current documentation on all areas related to the Information Technology department
  • Installs network cabling for projection software at all MWEC locations, and installs cabling for networking computers, printers, etc. when needed
  • Troubleshoots broadband connections and telephone connections
  • Rotates “on call” responsibilities, including rotation on nights and weekends
  • Supports all outside presentations (i.e. continuing education seminars), by ensuring all required AV equipment is set up and functional
  • Performs other duties and assumes various responsibilities as determined by supervisor.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred. Equivalent education and work experience will be considered.
  • CompTIA A+, Net+ or equivalent experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT (per ADA guidelines):

  • Physical Activity: Sitting, standing, fingering, talking.
  • Physical Requirements: Sedentary Work: work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform each activity of the position.
  • Occasional travel is required for this position and requires a valid driver’s license.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:

  • Staff members are required to meet training expectations within their initial 90-day probationary period. This training includes instructional sessions on computer hardware/software used within MWEC and other job-specific responsibilities. Ongoing technical training will be required for this position.
