Turning Point Community Programs is seeking two on call Personal Housing Instructor's for our TSS Chico Program. Turning Point Community Programs (TPCP) provides integrated, cost-effective mental health services, employment and housing for adults, children and their families that promote recovery, independence and self-sufficiency. GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the guidance of the coverage supervisor, this position is responsible for teaching and assisting clients, who are dually diagnosed with mental health diagnosis and developmental disability.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is an at-will direct service position within a program. The position is responsible for assisting and advocating for our members in meeting their expressed goals while living in the community. Staff will provide instruction to clients in the skills necessary to live independently in their home and support the client in learning advocacy skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSOIBILITIES – (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

  • Assists assigned clients to identify and progress toward achievement of client chosen goals.
  • Supports clients with developing practical housing skills and positive relationships with peers, housemates, neighbors and landlords; and cultivating strong relationships/networks with landlords, other housing service providers and employment resources
  • Provides consultation and assistance to landlords, property owners and employers
  • Empowers clients in meeting their goals including supporting opportunities for clients to make informed decisions regarding their needs.
  • Instruct client in performance of various independent living skills; EG: housekeeping, laundry, food preparation, hygiene, yard work, nutrition, budgeting, and safety.
  • Instruct client in learning how to access emergency services, mail and phone services.
  • Encourages clients to participate in the development and implementation of activities in the community.
  • Completes intake process with new admissions.
  • Occasionally carries a small caseload.
  • Responsible for rotational after-hours on-call duty.
  • Attends to the health, safety, and wellbeing of clients.
  • Provide on-the-spot counseling or crisis intervention as needed.
  • Completes paperwork as assigned in a timely manner.
  • Provides prompt intervention in the event of a crisis both to stop the crisis and to notify, when indicated, persons and agencies necessary for the resolution of the crisis situation.
  • Completes paperwork as assigned in a timely manner.

Schedule: Varies based on the needs of the program

 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

Education, Training and Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is through working at least two (2) years but less than four (4) years of full time/equivalent experience in a mental health or related field providing direct mental health. Lived experience is a plus.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

  • California driver’s license & current vehicle insurance/registration if driving; and,
  • Reliable means of transportation capable of passing vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old excluding all modes of two-wheeled transport inclusive of bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles.
