GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Quality Control Lab Technician assists in conducting product testing to ensure food products are within food safety parameters.

 

SCHEDULE:

Mon - Fri  7am - 3:30 pm 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Obtain the proper amount of samples to be tested by the lab
    • Enter lab orders for the day into database and obtain Lab Order Numbers assigned to the day’s samples
    • Organize, label, and composite finished product samples
    • Organize and label environmental samples
    • Prepare agar and sterilize using autoclave
    • Check pH, Brix and TA of each batch of the process
    • Label and organize micro plates for samples to be plated
    • Prepare dilutions and plate food products to ensure compliance with standards and regulations
    • Incubate samples in appropriate incubators
    • Read and interpret applicable micro results and enter results into database
    • Sterilize all micro plate samples prior to disposal in the trash
    • Operate all assigned equipment safely and efficiently
    • Run PCR for pathogen testing
    • Audit documentation of food test results
    • Report statistical data on all testing results and tracking the trends
    • Conduct shelf life studies using microbiological testing and organoleptic sensory
    • Assist with validation studies and special projects that require biological and analytical testing
    • Verify equipment calibration and make the necessary adjustments
    • Track non-conforming product and their dispositions when micro testing is required
    • Perform daily cleaning to comply with GMP's (wash utensils, clean counters, etc.)
    • Perform special assignments as needed by the Quality Manager

Position Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Biology, Chemistry, or equivalent required
  • 1-2 years Quality Assurance experience is preferred
  • HACCP Certified (required – but can be obtained on the job)
  • Basic knowledge of food safety regulations and agriculture is preferred
  • Knowledge in aseptic techniques and plate counting

  • Must have strong leadership skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Be able to work independently with moderate supervision
  • Be able to adapt to constant changes
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced environment
