The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Retail Buyer, the Assistant Buyer will provide operational support to the Buyer in effort to create the appropriate merchandise mix to support the mission of the museum and achieve financial plans.

You Will:

  • Perform operational functions supporting the buying team, including ongoing analysis of sales and inventory reporting, and providing business recommendations to Buyer.
  • Be responsible for all steps of data entry, including ensuring PO’s and sku creation are accurately entered into the system and tracking delivery on shipments.
  • Research the competition to identify emerging trends, categories, and promotional campaigns.
  • Review weekly sales performance to identify potential reorders and recommend styles for promotion or markdown.
  • Assist in the development of the broader assortment mix.
  • Be responsible for organization and management of samples.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 6+ months of buying experience in a retail environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite – both Excel and Power Point.
  • Organizational and planning skills.
  • The ability to work both independently and as a member of the team.
