Description

The Education and Public Engagement department of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures focus on creating safe and inclusive learning opportunities for people of all abilities. We are dedicated to making the skills and knowledge in a creative economy such as filmmaking to be accessible to all. Our goal is to unpack all those skills and build series workshops, public programs, gallery discussion, family activities and drop-in classes that range for introductory to a deep dive learning experience.

 

You will learn the ins and outs of daily routines and procedures around Museum education. A large focus will be on designing educational activities for the Museum as well as learning how the overall organization operates. Upon completion of the internship, you will better understand best practice and philosophical approaches to museum education as well as how to best work within a group setting to plan and implement museum education activities for a diverse audience.

 

Responsibilities:

Support the design and creation of some of the following gallery and studio activities:

  • Assist the Education and Public Engagement department on planning out Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work around youth and family programs.
  • Assist the Manager of In-Gallery Programs on designing accessible gallery experiences around the Miyazaki Exhibition and the Opening Collection.
  • Assist the Manager of In-Gallery Programs on designing support materials for Teaching Artists.
  • Other miscellaneous administrative duties and office support.
 
Position Requirements
  • Current undergraduate student (junior or senior) majoring in Museum Studies, History, Anthropology, Film, or related.
  • Knowledge on filmmaking and editing helpful but not required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Energetic, responsible, and eager to learn and tackle new projects/ideas.
  • Open to working with and engage the community.
  • Interest in and availability to attend Academy programs, functions, and networking opportunities.
  • Must reside in or attend college in Los Angeles County.

 

 

This internship is part of the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship Program, which encourages greater diversity in the professions related to museums and the visual arts. The Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program in Los Angeles supports substantive, full-time summer work opportunities for college undergraduates from backgrounds that have traditionally been underrepresented in the arts. This internship is also part of the Academy’s Gold Rising program, an 8-week internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
