Summary

The Early Childhood Teacher III develops strong nurturing relationships with children and families and works with a co-teacher to in the development of a quality, responsive care and teaching practices that are developmentally appropriate, responsive to children’s needs and interest and actively engage children in the learning process. This position plans and implements early childhood services that enhance the child’s physical, emotional, cognitive, and social growth and prepares them for school success. The Early Childhood Teacher III implements curriculum, works with parents, and assesses the needs developmental growth and needs of individual children.

**Please note that these positions will be located in the following Skip-a-Long locations: Moline, Milan, or Rock Island, IL. 

Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Relationships and Community

  • Understand each child as an individual, provides responsive, nurturing care based on each child’s temperament.
  • Use knowledge of families, cultures, languages, and communities to offer learning experiences that best meet each child’s learning style.
  • Guide the individual behavior of children in positive, effective ways.
  • Assist in promoting positive relations with parents through formal and informal communications.
  • Assist with providing opportunities for parents to volunteer in the classroom.
  • Cultivate a welcoming atmosphere where each child and their family feel safe.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and community partners.
  • Develop partnerships with parents in regard to their child/children.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, planning meetings, and training.
  • Maintain confidentiality in matters concerning families.
  • Must relate in a positive, nurturing way, both verbally and physically, and be sensitive to the needs of children, families, and co-workers.
  • Participate in coaching sessions and ongoing classroom, teacher observations.

Curriculum and Standards

  • Ensure the health and safety of all children at all times.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate interest areas, materials, and learning experiences, to ensure you provide opportunities for children to engage in the learning process and make meaningful choices.
  • Create the daily schedule to offer flexible, consistent routines and scheduled curriculum activities.
  • Create curriculum plans that promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of individual goals.
  • Develop and maintain lesson plans using Creative Curriculum and TS Gold and make accessible to all families.
  • Implement the curriculum and activities to develop thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ensure curriculum is supportive of children’s needs for safety, activity, sensory stimulation, fresh air, rest, hygiene, and nourishment.

Assessment

  • Conduct child development screenings and use results to demonstrate children’s progress and development.
  • Conduct on-going informal assessments through observations and interactions. Take accurate, objective and complete observations daily on assigned children
  • Use assessment results from TS Gold support the individual child’s learning and development.
  • Use assessment results to design the classroom learning environment and in the development of weekly lesson plans.
  • Share assessment results with family at family conferences and home visits.
  • Complete screening, assessment, lesson plans, and other documentation based on SALFCS timelines.
  • Enter observation data into the data management systems in a timely manner, including parent observations as appropriate.

Teaching

  • Incorporate a wide variety of learning experiences, materials, equipment, and strategies to help children build new concepts and skills.
  • Provide opportunities and experiences for children to be successful.
  • Acknowledge cultural differences to foster children’s interactions with diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Maintain accurate and timely written and electronic records/reports.
  • Maintain visual and auditory supervision of children at all times.
  • Must work to understand issues of difference, privilege and social justice, to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities and to cultivate a respectful, inclusive and accessible learning and working environment.
  • Report suspected cases of child abuse or neglect in accordance to state law and agency policy.
  • Medication administration (i.e., Epi pen, inhaler) and diapering as needed.
  • Conduct daily inspection of center facilities, equipment and materials.
  • Conduct Daily Child Health Inspection
  • Follow all SALFCS policies and procedures applicable to early childhood services, delivery of comprehensive services, health and safety, and Standards of Conduct.
  • Makes changes to the environment, routines and teaching practices based on feedback provided by the Child Development Specialist and the EHS CCP Mentor Coach
