Description

The CAFB is seeking an innovative, data-driven Business Analyst Consultant, to help the food bank maximize the use of information systems while promoting strategic and programmatic solutions. The Business Analyst Consultant will play a vital role in supporting the CAFB’s staff to meet objectives through the development of reporting tools, and data visualizations. They will be well versed in the Food Banks main databases such as; NetSuite, ArcGIS, MySQL, Tableau, Salesforce, and Key Survey. This position requires an ambitious and mission driven individual, who can think critically and creatively to problem solve. The Business Analyst Consultant will use both collaborative and analytical data and systems to measure efficiency and impact, while managing projects that are multifaceted across various departments.

 

The Business Analyst will become intimately familiar with each of the Food Bank’s main databases, including: NetSuite, ArcGIS, MySQL, Tableau, Salesforce, Key Survey, and others. They will work with departments across the organization in developing reports, dashboards, data processes, tools, and presentations to inform decision-making, as well as providing some training and database management. The Capital Area Food Bank has incredibly diverse data needs and to be successful the Business Analyst must be able to manage multiple projects that vary in content, scope, and level of technical and data proficiency from project team members. This position requires an ambitious and mission-driven individual who can think critically and creatively problem solve.

Essential Functions:

  • Support the Director of Analytics to serve as the in-house expert on data analysis and reporting and provide support to staff on data related projects.
  • Support the data analysis and reporting needs for the organization by extracting data from databases and offering insights to staff through analysis and reports that are visually appealing and that effectively communicate complex concepts to non­technical staff;
  • Lead the development and maintenance of the CAFB’s Hunger Heat Map, an integral web-based GIS tool utilized by both CAFB staff and the public to visualize and understand the complex landscape of food insecurity and food relief across the CAFB’s service area;
  • Work across departments to help staff monitor and manage their Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and to address any challenges that arise while analyzing data or creating new data tools;
  • Learn and become proficient in all organizational databases and how they are utilized;
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of organizational and departmental reports, tools, and dashboards to measure the accomplishment of the CAFB's strategic objectives;
  • Support departmental and program evaluation efforts to measure efficiency, impact and provide understanding of return on investment;
  • Make recommendations that will drive process improvements related to data collection/processing/analysis, business operations and decision-making processes;
  • Other Skills/Abilities:

  • Project management; confident leader and effective communicator, able to keep cross-departmental team on track and goal-oriented.
  • Good people skills and the ability to work across departments on a variety of projects and communicate data results clearly and succinctly.
  • Attention to detail; thoroughness in accomplishing a task through concern for all the areas involved, no matter how small.
  • Comfort with supporting change management and communication as technical requirements are translated into new processes that change the daily workflow for staff and/or the system use cases.
  • Understanding of program evaluation, monitoring, and impact assessment preferred.
  • Familiarity with the fields of food banking, hunger alleviation, or food security preferred.
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or suitable experience with analytic reporting, information systems, or other related field;
  • Prefer 3+ years of experience working with large data sets, developing analytic reports and creating data visualizations;
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). ArcGIS and Tableau mapping experience preferred.
  • Advanced+ proficiency with Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite. This role requires a high level of proficiency and confidence analyzing AND presenting data within Excel;
  • Attention to detail with the ability to keep data organized and to thoroughly document data and reporting systems;
  • Survey development and administration experience is a plus;
  • Preferred candidates will have experience with SQL and query writing. successful candidate will be comfortable with database architecture.
  • Preferred candidates will have experience with systems administration, integration and automation.

Physical Requirements:

Physical activities involve sitting for 80% of the work day. Occasionally lifts office supplies up to 20 pounds. Ability to travel to sites, as needed, throughout the metropolitan area.
