Therapist - Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) Waiver - Youth

Wyandot BHN is seeking a dedicated Therapist to join our youth SED waiver team. The SED Waiver provides children, with some mental health conditions, special intensive support to help them remain in their homes and communities. The term “serious emotional disturbance” (SED) refers to a diagnosed mental health condition that substantially disrupts a child's ability to function socially, academically, and/or emotionally. Parents and children are actively involved in planning for all services.

The SED waiver goal is to divert psychiatric hospitalization by providing intensive Home and Community Based  Supportive Services (HCBS) to children and youth in their  homes and communities. This position provides admission evaluations and provide short-term therapeutic services.  Will assist in other PACES functions as needed. 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Will provide outreach to families to complete admission/annual evaluations for SED Waiver.
  • Will work in collaboration with Families, Managed Care Organizations, and treatment team providers to complete evaluations for admission into Psychiatric Residential Facilities. 
  • Will provide liaison duties to community partners for hospital admissions and discharge planning back into PACES services.
  • Will provide outreach to families referred for PACES services and complete admission evaluations.
  • Will provide specialized therapeutic interventions as appropriate to client need and training and experience.
  • Will maintain small caseload of clients/consumers in need of brief solution focused therapy/crisis resolution.
  • Works with other staff to provide increased support to a client at risk of hospitalization or out of home placement.
  • Identifies strengths and needs of client/consumer and families and acts to involve them in planning for desired services.
  • Familiarizes client/consumer with community resources for educational, cultural, recreational, and social activities.
  • Works with case managers to secure adequate services, resource acquisition and resource coordination as needed.
  • Coordinate care as appropriate and maintain an excellent working relationship with community partners.
 
Position Requirements

Job Requirements:

Education:  Possesses Master’s degree in social science field, with relevant licensure by Kansas Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Experience:   Experience treating trauma and sexual abuse with children.  Familiar with mental health theory and practice.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to recognize and be sensitive to cultural and ethnic differences.
  • Communicates directly and effectively in a cooperative manner with colleagues and representatives of other agencies.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and as needed after hours coverage.
  • Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Eligible for Medicaid reimbursement.

Shift Days  
Hours Mondays-Fridays, 8am-5pm with 5 hours after 5pm required during workweek.  
Pay Range $40k-43k
