Getty Marrow Registration and Collections Management Intern - Summer 2021 (Gold Rising) 


As the Registration and Collections Management Intern for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, you will be introduced to areas of registration and collections management including processing new acquisitions, database and record maintenance, and long-term storage for collections.



  • Primary responsibilities that can be completed remotely include:
    • Assisting with processing documentation and cataloging data related to the Museum’s permanent collection, which may include digital photography editing and file naming, linking digital condition reports to database records, and assigning actions to database records.
    • Developing a template and implementing a process for labeling boxed objects in storage.
  • If in-person work is possible during the internship, other responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting collections management staff with physical cataloging of collection objects, which may include physical numbering of objects, labeling storage boxes and object photography.
  • Cataloging a collection of stereoviews.
  • Assisting with tasks related to exhibition preparation and installation, which may include documenting object moves, unpacking collections and assisting with condition report updates.
  • If possible, training in object handling will be provided. In order to support professional development, Zoom meetings with Museum staff in collections, conservation, exhibitions or other areas of interest may be set up to provide a forum to learn more about these areas.
Position Requirements
  • B.A. (in progress) in Art History, History, Studio Art, Archaeology, Museum Studies, Film Studies or related field.
  • Some previous museum or archival object handling experience and familiarity with collection databases preferred.
  • If in-person work is possible during the internship, must be able to sit and stand for periods in excess of 2 hours and lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Must reside in or attend college in Los Angeles County.


This internship is part of the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship Program, which encourages greater diversity in the professions related to museums and the visual arts. The Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program in Los Angeles supports substantive, full-time summer work opportunities for college undergraduates from backgrounds that have traditionally been underrepresented in the arts.
