Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLT or MLS)

Full Time, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, Day Shift

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Performs a variety of routine and priority analysis of body fluids.

  1. Performs diagnostic laboratory procedures manually and using specialized laboratory equipment in all areas of the laboratory including, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, and serology. 
  2. Recognizes critical results and reports same to the ordering or on-call physician.
  3. Maintains complete records of all tests performed and all test results.
  4. Maintains quality control by performing established control testing procedures.
  5. Prepares necessary reagents.
  6. Performs minor trouble-shooting and preventive maintenance on equipment and instruments and maintains proper records.
  7. Evaluates daily QC records for failures and takes appropriate actions.
  8. Assists in training new employees and students.

 

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. AS or BS in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Terminology
  2. Previous experience or phlebotomy skills a plus, but not required

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Works independently following established procedures and policies.
  2. Ability to organize and prioritize work and manage multiple priorities.
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Excellent attention to detail; errors with mislabeling specimens could cause error in diagnosis and treatment.
  5. Exercise proper judgement on cost effectiveness of Department and quality of patient laboratory diagnosis.
  6. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with providers, management, staff and contacts outside the organization.
