Description

SUMMARY
Assists with the planning, marketing, organizing, and implementation of various departmental and city -wide special events. Works and observes in different facilities/programs. Personal contact will be with staff, organizations, participants and the general public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES                                          This list represents the types of duties required by the position.  Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.

• Assist with the coordinating and facilitating special events and programs for the city including but not limited to Summer Concert Series, Boomin’ Parks Tour, Camp Awareness, Kids’ Triathlon.

• Assist the Special Events Manager as a liaison between city departments, business owners and vendors in the coordination of special events within the city’s parks.

• Assist in the preparation of weekly reports that are sent out between various departments to make each event successful.

• Assist in updating and maintaining webpages on the department’s website.

• Assist in managing the special events inventory.

• Shares knowledge relating to societal trends and how to adjust programs to be as inclusive as possible.

• Attends divisional and departmental staff meetings, as requested.Networks with professionals in the field.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• College undergraduate, graduate student or recent university graduate with academic focus/experience in a degree program related to any of the following: field of tourism, events management, leisure studies, recreation, communication, psychology, sociology, environmental studies or a related field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED
• Knowledge of or can readily learn various software applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work with patrons of all ages.
• Ability to understand and carry out instructions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION
• Valid Driver’s License required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in office settings, with moderate inside temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Entire office is smoke free.
