About the team:

Sciton, an established but growing aesthetic medical device company in Palo Alto, California, seeks a robotics & controls engineer to lead the development of robotic systems for incorporation into our medical laser systems.

The engineer will lead the product development process, including conception, design, prototyping, and testing.  In addition, the engineer will mentor junior engineers, empowering them to work independently and effectively to achieve their goals and contribute to the company as a whole.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical background and a proven track record in developing and bringing complex systems to market.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop, implement, and test robotic hardware and software.
  • Collaborate with our mechanical and software engineers to refine designs and control systems. 
  • Study existing products to understand and improve upon performance and assembly processes, as well as improve specifications and direction for suppliers.
  • Document and present progress at weekly meetings.
  • Guide junior engineers to empower them to work independently and effectively.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in marketing and leadership.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous progress.

 

 
Position Requirements

Essential Requirements:

  • MSc or higher in robotics, mechanical engineering, computer science, or similar.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working on robotics or other complex electromechanical systems.
  • Experience bringing products to market in regulated fields such as the medical, automobile, aeronautical, or defense industry.
  • Programming experience in C++, Python and/or MATLAB.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Candidates with fluency in Wolfram Mathematica are strongly preferred, although those with demonstrated ability with similar languages and willingness to learn will be considered.
  • Ability to work and communicate ideas effectively to non-technical colleagues.
  • Knowledge in soft robotics/compliant mechanism control.
  • Experience with real-time control systems (RTLinux, QNX, xPCTarget, Labview Realtime. etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems scientifically and creatively.
  • Experience with fabrication techniques for rapid development and testing of components.
