Summary

This position is responsible for ensuring compliance to the inspection criteria defined by the company and its customers as well as industry standards.

This position helps to drive compliance to the Quality Management System in Astronics and adherence to the Engineering Requirements of the parts and products across the supply chain. The tasks and responsibilities are performed at various stations and steps across the location(s). The position will drive monitoring and data gathering for report creating as well as issue resolution.

The position is responsible to provide guidance to requirements defined by the customer, blueprint(s) or work instruction(s) to the production staff on the line, as well as act as an escalation point for discrepancies that occur throughout the work day.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following, other duties as assigned.

  • Responsible of the inspection processes across the manufacturing site on the designated area. Includes, but not limited to:
    • Inspection and Verification of all associated documentation tied up to the received parts, includes but is not limited to: certificates of compliance (CoC), material certificates, drawings, test reports, etc.
    • In-Process Inspection to ensure production is completing processes correctly as defined in the production work instructions and as defined in the blueprint.
    • Verify electrical test set up and/or final test results to ensure testing is being done correctly for each job.
    • Responsible to perform (as designated) the final inspection of product and ensure compliance to: Certificates of Compliance, Customer documentation as required.
    • Fulfill and deliver inspection reports as required.
    • Other designated inspection activities that need to be fulfilled to comply with the established requirements.
  • Utilize inspection, measurement and test equipment (caliper, micrometer, comparator, ruler, Micro-Vu, meters, Cirris Testers, Etc.) to verify that products are manufactured to specification.
  • Follow communication and escalation process on quality, manufacturing, supplier, an other issues or concerns that come up during the shift.
  • Issue Discrepant Material Report (DMR) orders and follow up disposition with the Quality Engineer.
  • Create, verify, inspect and deliver required product and part labels to manufacturing.
  • Responsible to follow and ensure compliance to the Quality Management System requirements as well as Customer Specific Requirements on the products that fall within their area of responsibility.
  • Responsible to follow and ensure compliance with all the safety protocols and procedures throughout the organization.
  • Responsible for implementing and complying with all ethical and legal compliance requirements.
  • Recommend opportunities for improvement with aim of facilitating and promoting better practices while ensuring the highest level of Quality.
  • Other duties & functions may be assigned to this position as needed by the supervisor or lead.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

     

Required:

  • Minimum 1-2 year in a manufacturing environment.
  • Read and understand process documents and industry standards.
  • Team Player with good written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy a must.
  • Must understand basic math skills, including fractions, decimals and basic statistical techniques.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and cable & wire drawings.

 

Preferred:

  • Able to read blueprints and drawings (GD&T).
  • Experience in First Article Inspections Reports (FAIR’s).
  • Experience with FAI Software (Discus).
  • Knowledge and understanding of C of C’s, Material Certifications.
  • Experience using basic inspection and test equipment (ruler, caliper, and meter).
  • Working knowledge of ISO/9001/14000/13485 and AS9100 processes.
  • Experience working in a lean manufacturing facility or continuous improvement environment.
