Four (4) years of direct work experience and one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field or equivalent experience and
Certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) in any of the following areas:
o Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
o Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
o Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) in any of the following areas:
o Certified Professional Coders (CPC)
o Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC)

Duties and Responsibilities

Serves as the Manager, who oversees the development, implementation and updating of corporate policies regarding Coding.

• Interprets regulations, requirements and procedures to provide explanation on the interrelationship of various facets of the Patient Care Component (PCC), Admission/Discharge transfer system (ADT), Health Information (HIM), Revenue CycleCoordinates and distributes workload among subordinates and developing work schedules. Has authority to accept, reject or amend completed assignments based on established standards and instructions; establishes and maintains production controls. Ensures that internal controls are maintained for use in evaluating quantity and quality of employee production. Maintains record of work accomplishments and time expended, preparing workload and production reports as required.
• Develops, monitors, and reviews performance evaluation and counsel's employees regarding leave, performance, discipline and conduct.
• Maintains employee training needs and develops yearly staff development plans. Counsels employees to resolve job related and/or performance, and attendance issues in accordance with FDIHB Personnel Policies and Procedures.
• Updates contract costs related to coding and its vendors. Updating overall costs related to salaries, supplies, training and other associated costs related to coding in preparing Coding budget.
• Assumes responsibility for the review, qualitative analysis and technical evaluation of the Patient Care Component (PCC) in relation to the standards of Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), American Health information management Association (AHIMA), American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC), Internal Control Policy from Indian Health Service, and/or other regulatory agencies.Ensures the accuracy of Electronic Health Records and PCC forms. Queries clinical staff on Electronic Health Records notes and PCC forms to clarify ICD-10-CM diagnoses and procedures documented; CPT procedure codes; validation of E/M codes; HCPCS codes are appropriately selected. To also assure ancillary services are documented as services rendered.
• Assumes responsibility for Electronic Health Record (EHR) coding processes and implementing changes as it relates to changes in compliance and processes for coding.
• Prepares and implements ICD-11 as it relates to coding.
• Performs routine quality review of data at the facility. Uses PCC management reports and/or manual review of source documents to ensure the quality of data entry. Monitors and tracks identified errors for quality assurance and outcome tracking log. Identifies andresolves problems and manages the methods of coding, data entry and retrieving health care data for special studies and perform retrieval of data for studies to meet quality improvement processes.
• Assists Clinical staff in processing Electronic Health Records that relates coding that utilizes ICD-10-CM, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and Healthcare Common Procedures coding system (HCPCS).
• Performs the most advanced health records coding and abstraction duties; performs data quality reviews and prepares complex reports for compliance with Fort Defiance Indian Hospital Board, Inc. (FDIHB) regulatory requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
