Description

SUMMARY: Under basic supervision, collects, sorts, processes, and load recyclables and assists the public with the proper disposal and recycling of various materials. May fill in as needed at scale house.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The job description is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Collects, sorts, processes, and loads recyclable materials; prepares and loads processed recyclable commodities for shipment.
  • Assist the public with unloading, disposal, and recycling of electronic waste, batteries, materials for document destruction, and aluminum cans for redemption.
  • Clears litter and debris from Recycling Center grounds and building; identifies and reports building maintenance and repair needs.
  • Operates various types of machinery, including but not limited to pick-up truck and trailer, forklift, skid steer and baler.
  • May operate as Scale Operator as requested; weighs all inbound and outbound vehicles; collects required fees and signatures; examines all loads and screens for special fee items and banned items; directs traffic to proper dumping area collect fees and signatures.
  • May provide Customer Service support, including answering phone calls; greeting walk in customers; responding to various inquiries about programs and collecting payments.
  • Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND six months experience in a recycling center that includes customer service, or two years of experience operating light equipment; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Wyoming/Idaho Driver’s License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • CPR and First Aid.
  • Fork lift OSHA certification, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.

 

Required Knowledge of:

  • Recycling center operations; recyclable commodities for sorting and processing.
  • Principles and practices of light equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.

 

Required Skills in:

  • Operating light equipment including but not limited to forklift, skid steer, and baler.
  • Providing quality customer service.
  • Applying basic mathematic principles.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard software such as Microsoft Office and some specialized software; functioning standard office equipment.
  • Familiarity with contractors and proper disposal procedures.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Work is performed throughout the Recycling Center (outdoors and indoors); requires constant physical effort, and possible exposure to extreme cold, heat, noise, fumes, dust, vibration, confined work space, chemicals, and biological, mechanical and electrical hazards.

Hiring Range is $19.43/hr. - $20.41/hr
