Quality Engineer

The Quality Engineer will develop, implement and maintain Quality documentation compliant with the Barrett Business System (This includes any Customer specific and or regulatory requirements) and improve the manufacturing process. The QE will develop Internal and External risk assessments to insure all requirements are met per Customer Programs. Will assist and/or lead problem solving activities working closely with all other departments. Will be the record keeper to ensure all data is documented and summarized for presentation to management as needed. Communicate and work with vendors to establish inspection plans, resolve part problems and set requirements for new or existing products.

  • Develop and implement Inspection and ISO-9001 documentation and improve manufacturing processes both internally and at supplier locations.
  • Develop Internal and External risk assessments to ensure all requirements are met per Customer and Regulatory Requirements.
  • Monitor and help control scrap; including Pareto and corrective action analysis.
  • Assist with problem solving and quality concern resolution (5-whys; Cause/effect diagrams, Drill Deep and Wide; etc.)
  • Monitor, analyze and report on KPI indicators and associated improvement action plans.
  • Assist with process improvements and data analysis.
  • Visit plants, customers, and suppliers periodically on a variety of issues and to complete supplier assessments as needed.
  • Internal ISO and Process Audit Lead & Participation.

Position Requirements
  • Experience with Manufacturing, Assembly, and/or Engineering a plus.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 / criteria.
  • Demonstrated competence in Quality related statistics.
  • Experience with FMEA, Process Control Plans, DOE and process improvements preferred.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to permit effective interaction with all levels of Barrett and external customers and suppliers.
  • Self-directed and motivated individual capable of performing duties with limited supervision.
  • CMM Knowledge and/or experience.
  • The individual must be able to meet Barrett’s marksmanship standard. Observe range rules and general firearm safety.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability, quality standards, GD&T, ISO standards.
  • Proficient in CAD software with the ability to design gauging as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Industrial / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience and /or certifications in quality or engineering related function.
  • Must be able to lift and carry or move up to 70 pounds for long periods of time, in accordance with proper safe lifting procedures.
