Registered Nurse

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Individual and Community Supports Program Manager, the ICS Registered Nurse (RN) provides clinical supervision and training to direct service providers providing services to medically fragile consumers. The ICS RN assesses the consumer’s needs relative to these services. The ICS RN is also responsible for conducting supervisory visits, completing direct service provider skills verification, and providing Medication Administration training, Blood Borne Pathogens training, Seizure Management and any other courses as qualified.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Completes initial assessment of the consumer’s personal care needs.
  2. Develops a plan of care based upon the assessment of the consumer.
  3. Conducts a home visit at least once every 90 days to assess and re-evaluate the consumer need, modifies the plan of care and conducts the direct service provider supervisory visit.
  4. Monitors and trains direct service providers providing personal care services or services to medically fragile consumers.
  5. Maintains appropriate documentation according to established time lines.
  6. Conducts Medication Administration and Blood Borne Pathogens, Seizure Management and other training sessions as needed to keep staff in compliance
  7. Attends in-services/meetings as required, conducting training sessions when needed.
  8. Requests and secures medication orders when cases are opened and renew every six months.
  9. Reviews Medication Administration Records.
  10. Assists in staff development.
  11. Attend regular group or individual supervision sessions.
  12. Participate in ongoing Quality Improvement activities.
  13. Provide high quality customer service, serving as a positive representative for the agency.
  14. Maintains regular attendance and punctuality, manages use of PTO time (if applicable), and follows all policies and procedures regarding time off.
  15. Follows all ESUCP Policies and Procedures.
  16. Must demonstrate Easter Seals valued behaviors of Accountability, Commitment and Caring as appropriate to position.
  17. Completes required training within prescribed timeframes.
  18. Performs related duties as requested

Supervisory Responsibility:

Direct Care Providers who provide services for medically fragile individuals are clinically supervised by the ICS RN, who conducts supervisory visits every 90 days and documents these visits on a Supervisory report.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse currently licensed to practice in North Carolina.
  • Two years experience as an RN, home health experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with individuals with MH/IDD preferred.
  • Experience in a training role preferred.
  • Must have a valid, unrestricted, state appropriate driver’s license for the State of North Carolina and personal vehicle insurance.
  • Must have reliable transportation that will allow movement throughout the program delivery area.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check


The majority of the ICS RN’s time will be spent on assessment, documentation and supervision of care providers providing services. This will occur in the homes of the individuals supported and will require travel to those locations. The remainder of the time will be divided between conducting various trainings, reviewing Medication Administration Reports, requesting and securing Medication Orders, and completing documentation in an office environment.
