Description

The Manager of Benefits will be the subject matter expert for the CAFB’s benefit plans (incl., group health, dental, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, worker's compensation, flexible spending plan, and retirement plans). This includes the oversight of accurate employee change entries and enrollments, the timely exporting of payroll hours to finance, and the monthly payment of benefit invoices to providers. On an annual basis, this position will manage our health insurance renewal process, and the 401k audit. With the support of the HR team, the Manager of Benefits will oversee and track our employee wellness initiatives, the CAFB’s fun activities, and engaging staff events.        

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages our health insurance, retirement, and employee wellness programs.
  • Ensures employee count, payroll hours, and HR changes, are accurate before exporting to finance.
  • Facilitates accurate and timely delivery of employer contributions and employee payroll deductions to carriers, plan administrators, or other appropriate service providers.
  • Advises and informs employees of changes and developments related to benefit compliance including eligibility, coverage, and provisions.
  • Completes records, reporting, retention, and other documentation required by federal, state, and provider rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Occasionally, conducts employee surveys, census, and other research and demographic efforts required to collect accurate quotes from benefit providers.
  • Identifies and helps select carriers and plans based on quotes, available benefits, and employee value.
  • Reviews biweekly earning & deduction entries, to ensure benefit costs are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Ensures CAFB’s benefit plans comply with the applicable provisions of COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA.
  • Compares benefit plans offered by demographically comparable organizations; and makes recommendations for enhancements or improvements required to keep the CAFBs plans competitive and effective.
  • Partners with the HR team, or CAFB staff, to establish and implement employee activities that are valued and up to date.   
  • Prepares benefit utilization reports, and presents this to various stakeholders.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in the benefits and total compensation space.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements
  • BA in Human Resources, or related field
  • 5 years related work experience.
  • Proficient use of HRIS database related to benefits & compensation.
  • SHRM-SCP or SHRM-CP preferred.

 

Other Skills, Abilities:       

  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and payroll interface
  • Thorough knowledge of COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA requirements.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Experience presenting benefit data using HRIS, PowerPoint and Excel (or related software combination)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong detail orientation.
  • Interest and precision in working with numbers, and budget entries.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
