Position Description

The Center for Policing Equity is looking for a skilled, Senior Director of Talent & Culture with a passion for social justice issues. Under the direction of the VP of Operations, the Senior Director of Talent & Culture will vision, shape, and administer all people policies, programs, and practices for CPE employees. With an eye towards diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, the Senior Director of Talent & Culture will develop a cohesive strategy across all relevant functions (e.g., talent strategy, hiring/onboarding, compensation and benefits, employee relations, remote work engagement, etc.). CPE is rapidly scaling its teams, and this position provides an opportunity to create and scale the vision for the Talent & Culture department for a mission-driven organization. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Vision, plan, manage, and oversee organizational best practices, policies, procedures, guidelines and tools to meet Talent & Culture goals, identifying opportunities for improvement and scaling
  • Develop and oversee talent acquisition/strategy 
  • Oversee compensation and benefits administration
  • Iterating on our hiring and onboarding protocols
  • Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert and coordinator in matters pertaining to hiring, orientation, leave and personnel matters, mediation, compliance, leadership development, organizational learning, and DEI matters
  • Work with the finance team to sustain employee payroll and leave accruals using the internal payroll system
  • Coordinate and monitor all leaves of absence including family and medical leave participation and workers compensation incidents 
  • Collect and maintain employee personnel records
  • Conduct exit interviews and ensure organizational growth and learning from findings
  • Ensure compliance with all existing government and legal reporting requirements, including any related to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Paid Family Leave (PFL), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Department of Labor, worker compensation, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other relevant local and state labor laws
  • Manage relationships with Talent & Culture vendors and benefits providers
  • Develop and manage Talent & Culture team

Qualifications (required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, human resources, organizational development, or another related field
  • 8+ years work experience in Talent & Culture / HR administration (minimum of 8 years)
  • 3-5+ years of experience supervising junior team members
    • Proficient in performance management
      • Provide regular, constructive, actionable feedback to direct reports
      • Monitor and track employee performance via weekly check-ins, quarterly check-ins, and biannual reviews
    • Proficient in mindful delegation and capacity to assign work while clearly articulating deliverable expectations
    • Provide professional development guidance and mentorship to unlock talents and potential of direct reports
    • Demonstrate an appreciation for the management function and participate in management development in an ongoing way
  • Experience working with payroll software applications and applicant tracking systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in G Suite, specifically Gmail, Google Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms
  • Ability to learn and become fluent in Asana, Salesforce, Sharefile, Zoom, and Slack
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and ability to understand, interpret, and apply principles and best practices for Talent & Culture administration
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential materials with discretion and sensitivity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to relate tactfully and diplomatically with employees
  • Proactive in surfacing problems and finding solutions
  • Ability to work and collaborate with diverse staff in-person and remotely and as part of a high-performing team, in a fast-paced organization
  • Passionate about social justice issues

Other Qualifications (desired, but not required)

  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification
