The Houston SPCA is a private, non-profit charity, funded entirely by donations, which receives no funding from the Government, United Way or national animal groups.   Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time   Exempt/Non-Exempt Non-Exempt   Category Facility Management and Maintenance   Description Nature & Scope: The position's primary responsibilities include a wide variety of activities to be performed within assigned standard procedures which may involve decision making between several standard alternatives. The position will routinely provide information or services within the organization; work independently on general assignments, and refers all unusual problems to the supervisor. Experience: Entry level position. Experience in general maintenance work helpful, but not required. Or any combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Ability to: Communicate appropriately orally and in writing; maintain operating knowledge of related equipment. Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments. Maintain operating knowledge of related equipment. Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision. Operate a Forklift safely and effectively. Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas. Work cooperatively with managers and staff. Able to work around all the animals including various livestock. Learn to perform a variety of manual task related to assigned duties. Communicate issues in a clear and understandable fashion. Provide proof of valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Expedite diverse maintenance assignments in a satisfactory manner.   Position Requirements Requirements: Provide proof of valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. High School Diploma, GED or Vocational school education. Ability to regularly ascend or descend a series of stairs or several tiers of stairs frequently throughout the workday. Ability to perform physically strenuous tasks, stand for long periods, climb ladders and work from high places, and bend, stoop, reach, lift and move at least fifty (50) pounds. Ability to use skill and manual dexterity to safely and proficiently operate various tools and equipment. Ability to maintain working knowledge of maintenance and grounds upkeep methods, materials, and equipment, as well as safety regulations and precautions related to work performed. Ability to work weekends, a flexible schedule, to include after-hours with resulting return to duty. Ability to travel to and from various locations using company vehicles. Ability to perform work inside and/or outside to include being exposed to extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, chemical hazards, atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin. Ability to work in confined spaces, darkness or poor lighting conditions, trenches, and/or isolation.   This position is currently not accepting applications.
