JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Facilities Custodian is an essential role in providing a clean, safe and inviting environment for both customers and staff. This role supports all departments of the organization including but not limited to Health and Wellness, Early Childhood Education, Girls and Youth programs, as well as Racial Justice. This role is responsible for performing routine cleaning, general building and grounds maintenance and special events set-up. Although daily tasks will be consistent, a successful candidate will be flexible and open for redirection as needed throughout the shift. This position is customer facing, and will endorse and promote the YWCA's mission in empowering women and eliminating racism at all times. Provide work direction for facilities custodians as directed by the maintenance engineer.

Shifts are: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain cleanliness of all areas of the facility, including but not limited to the women's bathrooms/locker rooms using established practices and procedures.
  • Lead and participate in providing custodial services and basic maintenance. Provide guidance to fellow YWCA Minneapolis staff, as well as contractual staff support, as needed.
  • Write and maintain updated Standard Operating Procedures to ensure a clean, welcoming facility.
  • Safely perform all job duties within standard operating procedure guidelines related to equipment, chemicals and supplies. Attend to emergencies when necessary.
  • Secure building when facilities are not in use per guidelines, checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights.
  • Remove snow and debris from sidewalks, employ seasonal techniques and associated hand-operated tools or small power equipment to ensure attractive curb appeal and customer safety.
  • Perform chemical testing and treatment of swimming pools. Practice safe chemical handling based on described safety expectations.
  • Attends meetings and training in cleaning methods and techniques, new products, First Aid, CPR, and other related as required.
  • Communicate to Engineer or Maintenance Foreman, as needed, of any repairs needed to the building or property above.
  • Assist with inventory control, building security and emergency preparedness plans.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the facility.
  • Exercise caution to keep building and its occupants safe.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Facilities Engineer who reports to the site General Manager. The incumbent will interact with YWCA staff, members, and guests.

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Up to two years’ experience in custodial maintenance.
  • High school diploma or General Education Degree.
  • Ability to uphold chemical safety expectations.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certified. (Must complete within 90 days of hire).

Preferred

  • Pool care and water treatment experience.
  • Prior experience supervising or providing direction to cleaning crews.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Experience as a manager or team lead.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Required to walk regularly. Occasionally required to sit, stand, use hands, climb ladders; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high places.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particle, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat and risk of electric shock.
  • Noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
  • Travel to other locations is required 0% of the time.
  • Work will be completed independently 85% of the time.

Compensation: The pay range for this position is $15.00-$18.00 per hour (depending on qualifications)
