Description

We are currently seeking a Digital Communications Manager to lead and contribute to digital communications and marketing projects at our Alexandria, Va. office. The ideal candidate has a mix of technical and creative acumen with the ability to think critically and strategically while helping our association move forward with modern communications techniques. You will be empowered to lead the association’s pivot to digital-first communications and help drive awareness of the NARFE brand by helping us establish search-engine optimization and inbound marketing tactics with high-quality, engaging content. You will be working in a team that includes a graphic designer; and a digital communications assistant; coordinating with public relations, advocacy, and NARFE’s Federal Benefits Institute; and reporting to the Director, Communications and Marketing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Support the Director, Communications and Marketing, in developing and implementing the digital side of an integrated strategic communications plan to advance NARFE’s mission, and broadening awareness of its programs and services.

Ongoing web strategy and content operations, including analytics.

Consult with advocacy and federal benefits staff to assess digital communications needs and strategically evaluate requests; offer tools, training and methods as necessary to enable staff to communicate directly and effectively.

Work with fellow communications and marketing team members to develop and execute digital projects in support of growing stakeholder engagement, as well as achieving membership and revenue goals.

Establish and maintain content calendars to ensure digital platforms are regularly refreshed and accurate.

Establish and maintain digital marketing techniques to facilitate conversions.

With the support of the digital communications assistant, oversight and production of a weekly newsletter, regular social media posts, and monitoring and responding to incoming customer service requests that come in through digital platforms.

Facilitate digital storytelling and leadership topics at NARFE by establishing and overseeing a process for digital content development.

Measure, track, and report on the effectiveness of digital communications campaigns.

Serve as project manager for web requirements, liaising with design and development vendors or IT vendors.

Other duties may be assigned.

 
Position Requirements

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a communications-related field or liberal arts discipline

At least five years of relevant experience in digital communications

Experience leading creative digital projects

Preferred: Journalism or writing experience, association experience, engaging a government-focused audience

Qualifications:

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to create high-quality online content

Project management skills

Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Suite,

An understanding of search-engine optimization best practices

Working knowledge of HTML and CSS

Demonstrated familiarity with content management systems (WordPress preferred) and social media calendar management tools, such as Hootsuite and CoSchedule

Demonstrated familiarity with analytics tools, such as Google Analytics

Familiarity with email service providers, such as MailChimp

Familiarity with database-connected websites (with CRM, AMS or other relationship-management database)
