The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Manager of Youth Programs, you will bring your knowledge, expertise, and teaching experience to provide exceptional and high-quality programs to our visitors who have chosen to participate in an education program. We are looking for bilingual English/Spanish individuals to work part-time to collaborate with the Education and Public Engagement team on curriculum that will convey the power of filmmaking to youth audiences. Teaching Artists will be the main facilitators of programs, virtually and onsite, so comfort with public speaking, experience with inquiry-based methods, and a creative attitude towards instruction are all key characteristics we are looking for. A passion for working with youth, and especially teenagers, is essential.

 

You Will:

  • Facilitate education programs throughout our galleries and in The Shirley Temple Education Studio.
  • Use professional-level technology to excite learners about all facets of filmmaking.
  • Work with experts such as Academy Members, museum curators, and filmmakers to relay information and facilitate programs in person and via virtual conferencing applications.
  • Attend training program, virtual and on-site.
  • Be responsible for planning and implementing curriculum, instruction, and facilitation.
  • Work with diverse teams and students.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree not required but preferred (or, equivalent experience).
  • At least 3+ years of experience teaching to a wide range of individuals including youth, adults, and folks of all abilities.
  • Prior experience working with a teen audience in an informal capacity is essential.
  • Bilingual skills, English/Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge using filmmaking technology.
  • Experience in prioritizing and organizing multiple activities effectively.
  • Research experience relating to pertinent areas of the museum’s collection.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Reasonable accommodations for applicants and staff with disabilities in compliance with federal and state law.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Availability to work late hours or weekend hours.
  • Customer service experience including experience with complex conversations.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently move and carry 25lbs or more of supplies and materials to workshop locations.
