Summary of Job Responsibilities: Supervises and coordinates overall daily shift activities in the production area which includes employees, injection molding machines, material and equipment to meet production expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Assures that all mold changes and startups are performed during the shift as directed by the production schedule and direction of the Plant Manager.
2. Applies knowledge and skills in the efficient start up and processing of injection molding machines.
3. Makes the proper adjustments to pressure, water temperatures and plastic melt temperatures with the use of digital and manual machine controls and documents results.
4. Must continually develop molding expertise of process and materials through experiences, training and development.
5. Assures that all documentation and recordkeeping during a job start up and production is accurately completed.
6. Takes active steps to improve processes and maintain consistent cycle times
7. Reports needs for mold and machine repairs to proper support personnel and/or immediate supervisors
8. Possess knowledge and assist in the implementation of SPC and various statistical methods.
9. Establishes thorough procedures, guidelines and processes to meet production expectations
10. Develops a daily rotation schedule and effectively communicates to the workforce.
11. Trains and supervises machine operators in the proper operation of injection molding machines, documentation, parts inspection, and grinding procedures.
12. Train, supervises and assists Group Leader Assistants in the proper set-up, operation, and tear down of the workstations,
13. Work closely with Group Leader Assistant to develop their knowledge and skills.
14. Completes required employee administration duties such as appraisals, timecards, attendance records, and conducts appropriate disciplinary action
15. Measure part attributes and complete quality documentation per product requirements
16. Work closely with the QA Inspector and QA Manager in the understanding and development of quality standards.
17. Demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvement by offering suggestions and taking active steps towards improving our processes and procedures.
18. Package and weigh parts on scale when necessary.
19. Assures that molding machines, hoppers, purge screw and barrel are clean and contamination is avoided at all times.
20. Clean and spray molds for storage following job completion
21. Report to work 30 minutes prior to the start of the shift and remains 30 minutes after the shift ends in order to communicate with supervision on the other shifts

 
Position Requirements

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises employees in the Production area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Must handle all situations professionally.

1. Responsible for working safely and reporting any unsafe work habits or conditions to a supervisory member, Human Resource professional or a member of the Safety and Health Committee.
2. Responsible for working safely, modeling safe work practices and enforcing safety rules.


Education and/or Experience: Two year job related degree from post secondary institute and 3 year experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2 years of supervisory experience preferred. Mechanical or injection molding skills beneficial.

Training Requirements: Successful completion of the following training is required:
New Hire orientation, 90 day orientation, Position Specific Training checklist

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence accurately. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Software Knowledge: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge and skills utilizing our Enterprise system - IQMS and Microsoft Outlook.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
