Description

Astronics Test Systems is looking for a Digital Signal Processing Engineer specializing in radio communications to join our Aerospace and Defense team responsible for designing and developing modern communications test systems and solutions. In addition to developing new designs and architectures, the candidate must have solid experience in all phases of new product development from conception to production.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research and implement new signal processing techniques and modern RF communications standards in a software defined radio environment
  • Perform signals and protocol analysis in support of radio test system development
  • Perform modeling and simulation of signal processing components and subsystems in support of software defined radio application development
  • Define and document characterization and calibration methodologies, Validation and Verification (V&V) plans, and lead the V&V process for individual designs
  • Work with cross-functional teams across the United States to support new product development and sustainment activities

Qualifications

  • Experience and understanding in the application of principles, theories, concepts, practices, and standards relating to modern software-defined architectures and synthetic instrumentation designs.
  • Familiar with VHDL and Xilinx field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs)
  • Experience programming in a Linux environment using C, C++, Python, or Java
  • Demonstrated comprehension of communications and signal processing fundamentals, such as basic transforms, filters, modulations, and analysis in both continuous and discrete time.
  • Familiar with RF/analog components and associated impairments, such as gain and delay variation, phase noise, ISI, compression, LO feedthrough, and image rejection.
  • Knowledge of Software Defined Radio (SDR) frameworks and standards such as Software Communications Architecture (SCA), GNU Radio, X-Midas, and REDHAWK
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience creating and presenting technical research and design plans.
  • Strong analytical reasoning and problem solving skills with knowledge in performing root cause analysis and recommending corrective action to resolve test failures.
  • Ability to act as an engineering lead and subject matter expert for one or multiple concurrent projects involving cross-functional teams in multiple geographic locations.
  • Must be a US person.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (BSEE) or related field from four-year College is required; Master’s (MSEE) is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience working with radio systems.
  • 5+ years of experience in Digital Signal Processing.

 

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient with MATLAB & Simulink
  • Experience with software development and scripting languages, such as Python, C, Java, and C++.
  • Familiarity with VHDL/Verilog & System Generator
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
