The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, and collections. Reporting to the Director of Retail, the Buyer will work to create the appropriate merchandise mix to support the mission of the museum and achieve the department’s financial targets that align with the Open to Buy (OTB).

 

You Will:

  • Analyze and execute buy quantities that drive sales and prevent inventory gluts.
  • Research competition to identify emerging trends, categories, and promotional campaigns.
  • Develop tools to analyze and drive sales through fixture fills, sku counts, freshness and pricing/margin.
  • Analyze sales in-season and post-season (hindsight) to identify hits and misses.
  • Utilize learnings to revise in-season and future season actions, strategies, and assortments.
  • Grow and maintain strong vendor relationships.
  • Strategically scout new vendors to support business needs.
  • Negotiate product quality, costs, and delivery with vendors.
  • Manage and execute all steps within product development: including conceptualizing, sourcing, and conducting initial garment selection of colors, trims, fabrics, etc.
  • Review our weekly sales performance to identify potential reorders and recommend styles for promotion or markdown.
  • Partner cross-functionally to influence merchandising vision.
  • Teach, coach and motivate assistant buyer(s) to drive in-season performance and manage sku/PO maintenance.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • 2+ years of buying experience in a retail environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite – both Excel and Power Point.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational, planning, and leadership skills.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to work both independently and as a member of the team.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
