Registered Nurse - Part-time

Position Summary: The Nurse position is responsible for assisting with medical support needs for the program.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Implementation of Center-Based Therapeutic Services and other supports for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental illness or behavioral health needs.
  • Reviews staff service documentation for clinical appropriateness and accuracy.
  • Provides transcription of physician orders for medication administration and medical procedure.
  • Provides ongoing medical training and oversight to Center Based Direct Support Professionals.
  • Provides comprehensive clinical evaluations and treatment by providing basic health exams, and management of medication and treatment.
  • Retrospective service review to ensure services provided were in accordance with local, state and federal requirements.
  • Ensures Regional Center Based services maintain compliance with state and local Human Rights regulations, including appropriate reporting timelines.
  • Participates in transition planning for individuals utilizing Center Based Services.
  • Maintains contact with families and/or providers upon admission to Center Based Services.
  • Maintains linkages and relationships with community partners.
  • Identifies, coordinates and monitors necessary training for Center Based program staff.
  • Ensures the collection of required data and documentation on guest's access and utilization of Center Based Services.
  • Facilitates on-site and video consultation with Medical and Clinical Directors for guests in care.
  • Rotating responsibility for after hours and weekend on call support for the Center Based DSPs.
  • Follows all ESUCP policies and procedures as appropriate to position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current valid, unrestricted Registered Nurse in state of Virginia required.
  • Experience in intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of the MH and I/DD systems of care preferred.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize computer word processing and data programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Web-based data entry, etc.
  • Must demonstrate capacity to effectively communicate verbally and in written form.
  • Experience with crisis prevention and intervention services preferred.
  • Maintain valid state appropriate driver's license and auto insurance for personal and agency vehicles utilized for work.

Equipment Used:

  • Standard office equipment: computer, fax, phone, scanner, copier.
  • Standard medical equipment needed to complete nursing assessments.
  • Use of personal transportation may be required.

Essential physical requirements:

  • Must be physically able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, bend and assist individuals with mobility needs.
  • Must be able to hear within normal ranges
  • Must be able to talk and write in order to articulate crisis prevention, intervention and de-escalation supports.
  • Must be able to see with or without accommodation to observe individuals.
  • Must possess the visual acuity to develop written correspondence and determine accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Must be physically able to perform the basic life operational functions of talking, hearing, sitting for long periods and performing repetitive motions, such as using a computer.
  • Must be able to speak audibly, write legibly and perform repetitive motions such as typing.

Pre-employment and training requirements:

  • Satisfactory background check and motor vehicle report.
  • Satisfactory Tuberculosis (TB) Screening pre- or post-hire.
  • Current satisfactory completion of therapeutic interventions training - either Therapeutic Options of Virginia (TOVA) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) approved curricula. Can be acquired upon hire.
  • Current satisfactory completion of Medication Administration training (provided by appropriate credentialed and certified trainer). Can be acquired upon hire
  • Current approved certification to provide emergency CPR/First Aid
  • Additional required orientation and trainings required by the organization.
  • Current unrestricted RN license in VA.


  • Services will be provided in a center based, climate-controlled environment as well as in the community where exposure to weather conditions will occur.
  • Travel will be required.
Position Requirements
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the Virginia Nursing Board.
  • Previous experience in psychiatric, mental health or intellectual/developmental disability nursing preferred
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office, medical software and equipment
  • Ability to build rapport with patients
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Rotating responsibility for after hours and weekend on call support
