Leak Detection Technician 

Location City of Griffin  
Description

Performs a variety of technical leak detection duties by locating leaks and other forms of non-revenue water as laid out in the AWWA M36 manual.

  • Performs a variety of leak detection activities; patrols the city and county to install and monitors survey data loggers.
  • Records water usage and leak information data; identifies leaks.
  • Generates work orders when leaks are identified.
  • Maintains logger inventory.
  • Locates and operates valves; raises valve boxes to grade; performs valve assessment and upgrades; replaces and installs new valves.
  • Performs water distribution system flushing; maintains knowledge of automatic flushing devices.
  • Identifies zero consumption water meters; locates and assesses the condition of meters; replaces meters as needed.
  • Completes a variety of required reports.
  • Performs related duties.
 
Position Requirements
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the installation, repair, testing and monitoring of water mains and service connections.
  • Knowledge of leak detection principles, including the use of survey data loggers.
  • Knowledge of valve installation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of meter installation and maintenance.
  • Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of job-related equipment and tools.
  • Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
  • Skill in the interpretation of a variety of maps and graphs.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain, within 12 months, a valid Water Distribution Operator License and/or Certified Backflow Tester License issued by the State of Georgia.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia.
  • Higsh school diploma or GED.
