Description

Summary of Job Responsibilities: Develops, implements, and coordinates product development and quality assurance program to prevent or eliminate defects in parts by performing the following duties personally or through Quality Assurance Department employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

  1. Coordinates with internal departments to assure customer satisfaction on new jobs and revisions.
  2. Assures customer service receives initial B.O.M. standard for molded parts and assemblies based on information from sales and the customer.
  3. Generates and distributes sample requests with objectives and clear direction.
  4. Obtains initial specifications from customers concerning product quality issues and packaging.
  5. Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation that meet the needs of the customer and the standards of the company. Suggests and debates alternative methods and procedures in solving quality issues and meeting customer needs.
  6. Modifies existing designs, suggests improvements to production techniques, and develops test procedures. Directs and utilizes management staff and other resources to achieve optimal end result.
  7. Analyzes, evaluates, and recommends cost improvement ideas through product, vendor, and design changes to improve process and competitive position of the company
  8. Develops a strong working relationship and partnership with customers to understand and anticipate product development and design needs that may enhance their product line.
  9. Participates in customer task force meetings for assigned customers.
  10. Confers with representatives of material and component vendors to obtain information related to supply quality, considering the capacity of the vendor to meet orders and vendor quality standards.
  11. Coordinates testing activities to make sure quality function gets the sampling size required to execute next steps as well as support process development activities to makes sure dimensionally and cosmetically, our processes : tool combination are developing good parts

QUALITY SYSTEMS

  1. Defines quality standards of acceptance and communicates to interested individuals.
  2. Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment and personnel capabilities.
  3. Prepares reports, graphs, and/or charts to communicate involvement and results of quality activities.
  4. Investigates customer complaints regarding quality and develops and implements corrective action plans for each complaint.
  5. Directs the QA function and partners with the Production department on the initial quality plan and operator work instructions for all new products, ensuring consistent level of quality that meets customer standards.
  6. Reviews all data obtained during all quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company quality standards and procedures. Effectively communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended improvements to internal personnel.
  7. Incoming Inspection: Reviews all purchased products or components and provides input to the decision to accept the product and future purchases from the vendor.
  8. Establishes program to evaluate precision and accuracy of gauges and measuring instruments such as caliper, pin gauges, height gauges, comparator, toolmaker's microscope, CMM, etc. Examines for wear or adjustment and requisitions for calibration or repair.
  9. Executes FAI and up to level 3 PPAP package for customer approval
  10. Executes IMDS activities (from receiving supplier IMDS components - building the IMDS BOM tree internally and submitting to the client for approval)
  11. Coordinates calibration and/or repair of measuring instruments by conferring with Plant Supervisor, Plant Manager, Technical Manager and Customer Service to determine acceptable timeframe for instrument to be out of use. Inspects accuracy of new gauges and repaired/calibrated instruments for conformance to standards prior to being released for production use.

GENERAL

  1. Designs and implements quality training programs for Quality Assurance employees, Production employees and others.
  2. Maintains required recordkeeping and electronic files relating to new products and quality records including, setup and management of Controlled Documents for all new part numbers and maintaining existing
  3. Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
  4. Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations, and develops recommendations accordingly.
  5. Actively involved in organizational employee teams, company project improvements and company functions.
  6. Participates in management discussions and offers opinions on problem solving issues in other departments as well as the Quality Assurance department.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has supervisory responsibility for team members assigned to the quality function. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience: Associates degree in relative activities and 2 years of related manufacturing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Software Knowledge: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills to include the ability to retain confidential user and login information, communicate via email, enter database information, download information and preserve important data.
