Description

JOB PURPOSE:

Ensure delivery of services to aide in the prevention of homelessness by promoting and developing awareness of the program and conducting full eligibility screenings to potential program participants. This position supports rural geographical regions and travel is involved.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct outreach and networking activities in the community; such as stand-downs, tent cities, bus stations, shelters, under bridges etc. Provide presentations at various community groups within a geographically dispersed area. Promote the success and reputation of the Emergency Solutions Housing Assistance Program.

Conduct initial eligibility screening of individuals and families seeking program assistance. Provide general information and community referrals to individuals not meeting program eligibility requirements and/or individuals not scheduled with a Case Manager due to program capacity.

Set up initial client file for clients being assigned to Case Manager.

Prepare reports as requested by Lead Outreach and Intake Specialist and Program Director.

Demonstrate exceptional customer service, in everything you do, by placing the child, family, Veteran or client first to support our mission to 'Empower people to build better lives for themselves, their families and their communities.'

 
Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: 1+ years in a customer service focused environment. Experience with homeless, low income, a strong plus.

LICENSES: Non-Expired Driver’s License with clear record required.

VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice with current auto insurance. Up to 70% travel within geographical region and surrounding areas as needed.

OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates. Must be available and willing to work nights, weekends and holidays as required to meet business needs. Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.

Preferential hiring consideration given to Veterans or military spouses.

EXCEPTIONS TO THESE CRITERIA MUST BE APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT HEAD.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

COMMUNICATION: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via oral or written means. Ability to present a friendly and positive demeanor to veterans, their families, staff, supportive services personnel, funders, and the general public. Ability to make oral presentations to large and small groups.

COMPOSURE: Ability to remain calm and maintain self-control in the midst of difficult circumstances and emergencies. Ability to respond in a professional manner in all situations.

COMPUTER: Working knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel; PowerPoint and Access a plus. 45 WPM, 90% accuracy.

TECHNICAL: Knowledge of community resources; Federal, State and local assistance programs, housing & utility assistance and disability benefits.
