Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.   Engineers, installs, maintains, repairs security systems, programmable logic controls, or other security-related electronic systems. Recommends improvements in security systems or procedures. Conducts risk analyses so that appropriate countermeasures can be developed. Conducts security audits to identify potential vulnerabilities related to physical security, staff safety, or asset protection. Provides system design and integration recommendations. Designs operation and security policies, programs, practices to ensure adequate security relating to asset protection, alarm response, access card use, and other security needs. Assesses the nature and level of threats so that the scope of the problem can be determined. Designs,implements, and establishes requirements for security systems, video surveillance, motion detection, or closed-circuit television systems to ensure proper installation and operation. Responds to emergency situations on an on-call basis. Prepares, maintains, and updates security procedures, security system drawings, or related documentation. Develops or reviews specifications for design or construction of security systems. Thorough understanding of the latest security principles, techniques, and protocols. An understanding of a wide array of server grade applications such as: DBMS, Exchange, DNS, SMTP, IIS, Apache, SharePoint, Active Directory, Identity Management, Patch Management, LDAP, SQL, Microsoft 365 ATP series and others. Understanding of monitoring devices such as firewalls, network and host-based intrusion detection systems, web applications, AV, WAF, Proxy and operating system logs. Ability to interpret IOC’s. Knowledge of packet-level analysis using appropriate tools (e.g., Wireshark, tcpdump).
