Position Summary:

The Human Resources Manager guides and manages the overall provision of Human Resources services, policies, and programs with a dynamic and collaborative approach. This position also originates and leads Human Resources practices and objectives that will provide a team member-oriented; high-performance culture that emphasizes quality, productivity, and standards in a luxury resort environment.

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for the development of processes and metrics that support the achievement of the organization's business goals.

The Human Resources Manager coordinates the implementation of people-related services, policies, and programs through Human Resources team; reports to the Director of Human Resources; and acts as a business partner to assist and advise managers about Human Resources topics and people management needs.

Essential Functions:

Development of the Human Resources Department

  • Oversees the implementation and on-going maintenance of Human Resources programs and functions through Human Resources team. Identifies opportunities for improvement and resolves problems.
  • Oversees and manages the work of reporting Human Resources staff. Encourages the ongoing development of the Human Resources staff.
  • Assists with developing and monitoring an annual budget that includes Human Resources services, rewards and recognition, One Edgewood wellness program, and benefits administration.
  • Conducts a continuing study of all Human Resources policies, programs, and practices to keep management informed of new developments.
  • Leads the development of department goals, objectives, and systems. Partners with Director of HR on Human Resources strategic planning.
  • Establishes HR departmental measurements that support the accomplishment of the company's strategic goals.
  • Manages the preparation and maintenance of such reports as are necessary to carry out the functions of the department. Prepares periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested, to track strategic goal accomplishment.
  • Develops and administers programs, procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the company.
  • Participates in management and team meetings, as well attends industry meetings, seminars, and workshops.

Employment Law

  • Leads company compliance with all existing governmental and labor legal and government reporting requirements including any related to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Department of Labor, worker compensation, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), State of Nevada and so forth. Maintains minimal company exposure to lawsuits.
  • Directs the preparation of information requested or required for compliance with laws. Approves all information submitted.
  • Protects the interests of team members and the company in accordance with company Human Resources policies and governmental laws and regulations. Minimizes risk.

Employee Relations

  • Formulates and recommends Human Resources policies and objectives for the company on any topic associated with employee relations and employee rights.
  • Partners with management to communicate Human Resources policies, procedures, programs, and laws.
  • Determines and recommends employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-team member relationship and promote a high level of team member morale and motivation. Conducts periodic surveys to measure team member satisfaction and team member engagement.
  • Coaches and trains managers in their communication, feedback, recognition, and interaction responsibilities with the team members who report to them. Makes certain that the managers know how to communicate with team members successfully, ethically, honestly, and legally.
  • Conducts investigations when team member complaints or concerns are brought forth.
  • Monitors and advises managers and supervisors in the progressive discipline system of the company. Monitors the implementation of a performance improvement process with non-performing team members.
  • Reviews, guides, and approves management recommendations for employment terminations.

Benefits; including Leave Management

  • Partners with insurance broker to obtain cost-effective, team member-serving benefits; monitors national benefits environment for options and cost savings.
  • Leads the development of benefit orientations and other benefits training and communication for team members and their families.
  • Recommends changes in benefits offered, especially new benefits aimed at team member satisfaction and retention.
  • Responsible for hours reports, including initial and annual lookback.  Communicate and execute appropriate benefits changes based on results.
  • Coordinates requirements and approval for all Edgewood Leave options.
  • Manages workers compensation claims, including the OSHA 300 log: in partnership with risk management.
  • Builds and maintains all benefits offerings in the HCMS.  Ensures proper deductions with the payroll department.

Employment

  • Establishes and leads the standard recruiting and hiring practices and procedures necessary to recruit and hire a quality workforce.
  • Responsible for ensuring effective process, aligned with Edgewood service standards, during every step of the employment life cycle and experience.

Training and Development

  • Coordinates all Human Resources training programs and assigns the authority/responsibility of Human Resources and managers within those programs. Provides necessary education and materials to managers and team members including workshops, manuals, team member handbooks, and standardized reports.
  • Assists in the implementation of the performance management system that includes performance reviews, performance development plans (PDPs) and team member development programs.
  • Partners with the Director of Human Resources to develop and execute an in-house team member training system that addresses company training needs including training needs assessment, new team member onboarding or orientation, management development,  cross-training, the measurement of training impact, and training transfers.

Human Capital Management System (HCMS)

  • Utilizes the HRIS system to eliminate administrative tasks, empower team members, and meet the other needs of the organization.
  • Oversees the optimization of all modules included in the HCMS, including team member self-service.
  • Maintains employment files, along with all employment records and retention.

Position Requirements

Qualifications / Special Skills:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business, or Organization Development.
  • A minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources positions; a minimum of 2 years managing a department and leading a team.
  • Experience with a Forbes rated hotel property and/or independent hotel strongly preferred; hospitality experience required.
  • Specialized training in employment law, employee relations, safety, and preventive labor relations, preferred.
  • Training and development, including curriculum writing, strongly preferred. Facilitation experience a plus.
  • Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations and ongoing community involvement preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR/SHRM-CP or other industry certification preferred.
  • Personal desire and genuine interest in growth and professional development within Human Resources.
  • Available to work varied shifts when needed, including weekends and nights.
