The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Manager of Facilities, you will oversee the work of the maintenance team to maintain the Museum building to the highest standards. You will provide leadership to maintenance staff and perform routine preventative and unplanned maintenance.

You Will:

  • Coordinate and evaluate the work of maintenance staff in the upkeep of the museum.
  • Work with the maintenance team as a working supervisor on day or evening shift.
  • Provide comprehensive and ongoing training for the maintenance team, including in the proper and efficient performance of maintenance tasks according to the training program implemented by the museum.
  • Inspect and evaluate the condition of the buildings, equipment, and machinery.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge/skill areas.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner in conformance with the museum’s safety programs.
  • Assign staff to perform scheduled maintenance and safety inspections on equipment.
  • Order and maintain parts for equipment.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area.
  • Establish cooperative working relationships and a positive and respectful attitude with peers, visitors and people of diverse backgrounds.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent certificate of completion.
  • 3+ years in general building maintenance, and ability to use hand and power tools and specialized equipment.
  • 3+ years of maintenance experience as a lead/supervisor, or 3+ years of progressive leadership.
  • CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) experience is a plus.
  • Comprehension of building and safety codes.
  • Knowledge of Cal OSHA and OSHA occupational safety regulations.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays and varying shifts.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Climb and work on ladders.
  • Intermittent walking, standing and stooping.
  • Lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in or outdoors in fluctuating temperatures.
  • Work in spaces that may collect dust or have high noise levels.
