Avionics Software Certification Engineer

Avidyne Corporation is leveraging its market-leader position in the design and manufacturing of integrated avionics systems to develop cutting-edge technology for emerging electric vertical lift aircraft, autonomous air cargo delivery and simplified operation vehicles. We have a 27-year history of developing a full line of communication, navigation, flight displays, surveillance, and flight control systems. Avidyne is headquartered in Melbourne, FL and operates two other facilities in Concord, MA and Westerville, OH.

Position Summary:

The Avionics Software Certification Engineer will be responsible for the effective development and implementation of software quality assurance (SQA) programs to ensure that software programs adhere to DO-178 compliant company processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Avidyne's SQA efforts including oversight and review of development processes and work.
  • Help to make sure we continue to develop the best quality, safest avionics on the market while simultaneously seeking new tools and methods to accelerate our roadmaps.
  • Help Avidyne meet FAA standards and regulation requirements for new and existing products.
  • Work with Development Team, Sales and Service organizations to identify and address safety and customer satisfaction related defects in fielded products.
  • Maintain Avidyne's on-going compliance with accepted development process standards including:
    • DO-178B/C
    • DO-160
    • DO-200B
    • ASTM
  • Work with Systems and Software Engineering groups during the product development cycle to determine new/modified regulatory obligations based on product feature sets.
  • Contribute as a primary point of contact with FAA certification authorities and with NTSB for incident investigations.

Education & Experience:

  • BS Engineering (preferably CS, EE, or ME).
  • Extensive software development experience, preferably in avionics, aviation or other mission  critical, highly regulated application space.

Other Desirable Experience:

  • Software DER Certification or desire to train for DER certification.
  • Master of Science degree in Engineering or relevant field.
  • Avionics or aviation background or interest.
  • DO-178B, DO-178C, DO-160 knowledge.
  • History of employment in highly regulated industry.
