Custodial Supervisor 


The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Reporting to the Assistant Manager of Maintenance, the Custodial Supervisor will oversee the work of the custodial team to clean and maintain the museum to the highest standards. You will also oversee the preparation, set-up, staffing, and clean up for numerous events throughout the year.

You Will:

  • Plan, schedule, organize, coordinate, inspect, supervise, and evaluate the work of custodial and set-up services staff in the upkeep of the museum.
  • Train staff according to the training program implemented by the museum.
  • Inspect and evaluate the condition of the buildings, grounds, equipment, machinery, and sidewalks.
  • Make cleaning and maintenance recommendations for improvement to supervisor.
  • Undertake comprehensive and ongoing training for the custodial team.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in conformance with the museum’s safety programs.
  • Coordinate set up and break down of tables, chairs, and linens for various meetings, programs, events, and other activities.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and respectful attitude with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrators, and visitors.
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent certificate of completion.
  • 2+ years of custodial experience as a lead/supervisor or 3+ years of progressive leadership responsibility in the custodial trade.
  • CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of building/safety codes used in the custodial trade, and in the maintenance of buildings.
  • Knowledge of supervision and training principles and practices is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Cal-OSHA and OSHA occupational safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic and modern cleaning methods, including preserving floors, whiteboards, carpets, furniture, walls, fixtures, locker rooms, and restrooms.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours including weekends, late nights, and holidays.


Physical Requirements:

  • Work indoors and outdoors in fluctuating temperatures.
  • Work under adverse situations and conditions, e.g., dirty, noisy, etc. 
  • Work on ladders, lifts, and heights. 
  • Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds and kneel/bend/stoop/squat for extended periods of time.
