Job Title: SQL Analyst / Developer

Department: Information Technology

Reports to: VP of Information Technology

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary: Individuals in the job are responsible for assisting Tropical Financial Credit Union in the achievement of its purpose of guiding members successfully through the financial marketplace. The individual in this position will use their extensive SQL server experience to develop complex ad-hoc queries, views and stored procedures as well as establishing best practices, as we continue to grow our data warehouse environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage business application reports using Microsoft SQL Reporting Services in SharePoint integrated mode.
  • Responsible for updates to existing and creation of new Microsoft SQL Server Report Services reports. (SSRS) and new Microsoft Power BI reports and dashboards.
  • Ability to produce complex Ad-hoc SQL query reports when requested.
  • Responsible for requirement gathering and project management of assigned projects/new reports.
  • Create new and maintain existing SSIS packages as needed.
  • Validate reports and data sets against source systems
  • Manage multiple, time-sensitive projects and meet deadlines
  • Ensure the integrity, availability, security and confidentiality of all data
  • Monitor daily SSIS package loads to data warehouse, and correct failures.
  • Provide performance tuning on existing reports to enhance end user experience.
  • Provide assistance with Microsoft SQL server support calls, upgrades or any changes to the environment.
  • Create IT documents for knowledge base, user guides, and other various communications systems.
  • Understanding of a wide range of interpretive analysis tools (e.g. trend analysis, spreadsheets, comparisons, graphs, summary versus detail charts, drill down, correlations, and exception analysis).
  • Organizes and distributes reports to appropriate credit union personnel.
  • Maintains and manages retention of data based on data retention policy.
  • Work flexible hours and be available for call-in and after hours support (24x7x365 operations).
  • Must be able to learn and understand the technical environment and applications quickly and keep up to date on new methodologies, related to Integration.
  • Solving problems by analyzing requirements, system capacity and capabilities, designing system jobs and recommending system controls and protocols.
  • Analyzes system performance and capabilities, executes all needed maintenance where appropriate and makes recommendations to management to ensure peak database operation.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for completed projects.
  • Provides cross training to I.T. Staff as needed.
  • Assists in I.T. projects as needed.
  • Assists in Disaster Preparedness and Recovery plan and implementation.
  • Assists the Help Desk staff with problem resolution and new requests implementation.
  • An individual in this position is required to interact with peer workers in business units and IT personnel and has contact with vendors, industry peers, and professional associations to keep informed of existing and evolving industry standards and technologies.
  • BSA Compliance: every employee is required to uphold the credit union's compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering policies and procedures. Specific functions within TFCU will take into consideration the awareness of unusual or suspicious activity that is relevant to the department.
  • In addition to any other assigned training courses, online BSA and OFAC courses must be completed at least annually, as made available by the Training and/or Compliance Departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Strong proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server Minimum 3 and preferably 5+ years of experience in developing database projects using SQL Server
  • Strong proficiency in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) for report generation and integration.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Power BI.
  • Skilled at optimizing complex queries, procedure and indexing strategies
  • Experience with relational databases, data modeling, database design
  • Knowledge of best practices working with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Capable of troubleshooting common database issues
  • Familiar with SQL performance and optimization tools
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity of project management techniques
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously while still meeting deadlines.
  • Able to handle potentially challenging situations under pressure with composure, professionalism and courtesy
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Be self-motivated, have solid teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to work well on cross-functional project teams and foster team commitment to tasks
  • Ability to use change-control processes through the integration of business processes and system changes
  • Detailed knowledge of physical and system security requirements
  • Proven track record in technical problem resolution and systems integration desired
  • Hands-on SQL programming skills
  • Experience with XML parsing is a plus
  • Experience with API integration is a plus
  • Experience in the financial services or similar industry in a production/service environment is a plus

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience and technical training, required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in developing database projects using Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Microsoft SQL Server Certification is a plus
  • Project Management Experience required (PMP or like certification is a plus)
  • Programming experience preferred (e.g. ASP, HTML, .NET, SQL)
