Avidyne Corporation is leveraging its market-leader position in the design and manufacturing of integrated avionics systems to develop cutting-edge technology for emerging electric vertical lift aircraft, autonomous air cargo delivery and simplified operation vehicles. We have a 27-year history of developing a full line of communication, navigation, flight displays, surveillance, and flight control systems. Avidyne is headquartered in Melbourne, FL and operates two other facilities in Concord, MA and Westerville, OH.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to develop and certify our next generation airborne sensors, displays, and flight managment systems. This position demands a high-energy, self-motivated individual who is comfortable coordinating within Avidyne, as well as, with customers and suppliers to achieve results. The Systems Engineer is responsible for developing FAA certified avionics products and systems that satisfy customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Define electrical hardware interfaces between various avionics systems.
  • Define and capture system features, functions, and user interfaces.
  • Evaluate system failure modes, reliability, and overall safety.
  • Manage hardware and software projects through the development process.
  • Guide the development effort through all phases of a formal software and hardware development lifecycle via Avidyne's internal processes, DO-178B, and DO-254 as required.
  • Author specifications, requirements, and test procedures for system software and hardware.
  • Write test plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Develop or update standard practices and tools for avionics systems development.
  • Convert knowledge of various technical standards into system requirements and tests.
  • Ensure our products satisfy customer, regulatory, and internal reequirements.
  • Complete System Safety Assessments (SSA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Reliability Predictions per FAA guidance and industry or military standards.
  • Coordinate design reviews, perform verification tests, and publish verification reports.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with customers, FAA certification authorities, and other invested parties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal and written communication (including technical documentation).
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic about solving problems.
  • Adaptable and flexible with moving deadlines, requirements, and changing focus.
  • Able to build relationships with internal and external customers, teams, and stakeholders.

Education & Experience:

  • BS in Systems or other Engineering discipline, Math, or Physics
  • 2+ years of Systems Engineering experience in aviation
  • Knowledge and experience with aircraft avionics systems
  • Experience with commercial avionics standards and processes (i.e., DO-178C, DO-254, AC 23.1209-1E, etc.)

Other Desirable Experience:

  • Advanced degree or other formal training in Systems Engineering.
  • Avionics or aviation background, pilot's license, or passion for flight safety.
  • Working knowledge of various software/hardware development processes.
  • Successful track record in the development of avionics.
  • Experience with DOORS Requirements Management software.
  • Familiar with FAA TSO, STC
  • Familiar with DO-160 environmental qualification including HIRF/lightning.
  • Systems engineering experience with CFR 14 Part 23, 25, 27, or 29 aircraft, RTCA/DO-1778C (software development), TRCA/DO-254 (complex hardware development).
  • Formal training in Project Management.
