Overview

 

The HIV/AIDS epidemic is not over, especially in Black communities. Would you like to be a part of the solution? The Black AIDS Institute (BAI) is looking for a highly skilled and self-motivated Outreach Coordinator to help us end HIV and AIDS. The Outreach Coordinator is a part of an innovative team that works collaboratively to run BAI’s HIV clinical and behavioral services to serve Black Angelinos in South LA. The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for supporting BAI’s HIV clinical and behavioral programs through managing and implementing BAI’s social support programming and the recruitment of and engagement with Black people in LA.

 

The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to anti-oppression work that fights for the core values of social justice and equity; strong work ethic; demonstrated success in program planning and implementation; and thrive in an unapologetically Black work environment. This is a full-time position. Some weekend and evening hours will be required. Travel may be required.

Reporting Relationship: Prevention & Care Manager

 

Supervisory Relationship: Program Specialists, Interns and Volunteers

 

Agency-wide Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of the Black AIDS Institute

Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

 

Leadership

  • Build strategic relationships with community partners, conduct a variety of outreach activities, and recruit and retain clients for various BAI programs
  • Plan and conduct a diverse array of outreach and recruitment efforts targeted to Black Angelinos at high risk of acquiring HIV for services and program participation.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate outreach plan and strategies
  • Attend relevant community meetings; participate in relevant councils, roundtables, and committees
  • Develop and maintain relationships with collaborative partners and cultivate new relationships as appropriate to support the mission of BAI
  • Assist in HIV testing, linkage to care, and retention in care activities for BAI and partners
  • Lead and supervise the Program Specialists’ outreach activities

 

Recruitment

 

  • Develop and maintain an annual outreach and recruitment calendar
  • Adjust recruitment strategies as needed
  • Supervise and implement public BAI events, meetings, and open house information sessions
  • Manage recruitment strategies such as: canvassing; social media and networking strategies; event & venue-based, etc.
  • Provide recruitment team members (staff, volunteers, contractors, partners, etc.) with the positive leadership culture, resources, guidance, training and technical support required to succeed in the desired recruitment goals
 
Position Requirements

Professional Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Social Work, Ethnic Studies, Gender & Sexuality Studies or a related field plus 2 years of relevant employment in program planning and implementation; community organizing; outreach and recruitment; HIV/AIDS-related work or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • High level proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication, public speaking and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience in project planning, meeting facilitation and consensus building, program evaluation, leading trainings, coalition building, and curriculum development, specifically for adult-learners
  • Demonstrated understanding of the structural and cultural issues related to HIV/AIDS prevention among Black people
  • Demonstrated commitment, in one’s personal and/or professional life, to social and racial justice
  • Ability to exercise discretion and tact in all interpersonal contacts and always maintain confidentiality
  • Exemplary ability to manage multiple tasks using independent judgment and discretion
  • Ability to work independently and accurately in a high-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to work under pressure while exercising discretionary judgment; make decisions when necessary with minimal direct supervision
  • Flexibility to perform other duties and responsibilities as needed
  • High level HIV prevention and care knowledge preferred
  • Reliable transportation required

 

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20-pound boxes or equipment in office or at events
  • Up to 50% of time will be spent in community settings outside of the office
  • Some weekend, evening, and holiday hours required
  • Ability to travel frequently
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Adequate internet access to facilitate working from home as necessary
