Accounting and Cash Manager 

Description

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and General Council and working closely with the Chief Financial Officer of the Academy Foundation, you will support the museum by overseeing the daily cash management and forecasting activities as well as the internal controls surrounding cash management. You will also assist with the annual audit, managing accounts payable, and performing research with a focus on mitigating risk.

You Will:

  • Create and manage daily cash activities including the concentration of funds, electronic transfers, and daily investment activity.
  • Oversee all cash transactions including collections, and cash handling.
  • Develop fraud control systems, financial controls, and act as lead for compliance programs and audits.
  • Review and forecast daily cash flow for multiple entries and currencies.
  • Work with Retail and Visitor Services Directors to ensure pricing and ticketing of all merchandise is correct.
  • Maintain cash office / safe following best practices.
  • Monitor and develop AP invoicing procedures. Note: accounts payable processing is handled by sister organization.
  • Print transaction exception and cash over/under reports weekly investigating variances.
  • Reconcile vendor accounts monthly and complete adhoc reporting.
  • Analyze information to assess current and future financial statuses.
  • Assure accurate and timely accounting.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 5+ years of experience in Accounting with a startup or non-profit preferred.
  • Foundation in cash management, general accounting, monthly close, and financial reporting, cash management.
  • Experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable and GAAP concepts.
  • Intermediate skill level of Microsoft excel (can write advanced macros) is required.
