Field Sales Agronomist 


Job Overview:

Leads the sales efforts of all UFC agronomy products and services by engaging in direct selling activities and demand creation with assigned accounts while administering UFC sales process and programs to meet sales and profit goals established the agronomy business unit. Routinely provides business relevant feedback from field observations to the UFC Leadership team and supervising manager.

Primary Objectives of the Position:

  • Direct selling to assigned customer accounts and prospects
    • Responsible for Agronomy Services sales utilizing UFC support resources as needed, i.e. MFSA, Sr. FSA, Agronomy Product Sales Managers and Plant Location Managers, etc.
    • Develops and maintains the customer business relationship for all business units of UFC
    • Services the account personally and engages another UFC professionals for additional support as needed
    • 80% of FSA's time should be allocated to customer facing activities.
  • Accountable for assigned account growth targets
    • Performance objectives will be tracked, monitored and measured to evaluate the success of the Field Sales Agronomist's performance.
    • Providing product and service recommendations to customers that exceed expectations thus leading to improved growth and profitability for UFC agronomy business.
    • Achieves assigned targets for profitable sales volume and strategic objectives with designated strategic accounts. Expectation will be to achieve an annual revenue target of $3 - $5 million with these accounts.
  • Actively engages in developing and implementing value added customer service programs, strategic sales and marketing plans across all business units which enhance customer satisfaction and support UFC's overall business strategies.
  • Responsible for upholding and building the UFC brand as it pertains to members, customers, peers, employees and suppliers.
  • Must have a working knowledge of how a cooperative is structured and how a cooperative benefits its members.

Areas of Responsibilities:

  • UFC Customer Account Management
    • Accountable for developing and maintaining customer business relationship for all UFC business units in the specific trade territory or accounts the Field Sales Agronomist is responsible for.
    • In a timely manner follows through on all customer service calls, concerns and complaints. Follows through and confirms that the customer resolutions are fair and are within accordance of UFC company policies. Refers unusual situations to VP of Agronomy.
    • Regularly maintain and document sales activity through UFC's FOCUS CRM database.
    • Coordinates the dialogue between the customer and other UFC Business unit professionals as needed
  • Recommendations are environmentally friendly and economically beneficial for the customer's operation.
  • Collaborates with peers to create and establish short and long-term sales strategies for retail sales programs, promotions and services that support the achievement of UFC sales objectives.
  • Support UFC's MFSA efforts in managing and maintaining rigorous agronomic research trials that support UFC's key agronomic growth objectives
  • Actively engages with members, customers, UFC employees, general public and competitors in a positive and professional manner.
  • Routinely provides business relevant feedback from field observations to the UFC Leadership team and supervising manager.
  • Complies with and enforces company safety program.
  • Suggests topics and provides information for UFC publications, web page, social media and letters.
  • Recommends qualified and competent people to management for addition to staff as necessary.
  • Works cooperatively as a team with members, customers, peers, employees and suppliers
  • Complies with all laws and regulations that apply to the departments.
  • Attends appropriate training sessions as part of programs of continuing education.
  • Other duties as assigned. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Today, UFC is an innovative and diverse cooperative striving to meet and exceed its members expectations through several business units including United Natural Gas, Agronomy, Energy Ag Equipment, Grain Handling Systems, Feed and Grain.
