The Columbia Group is seeking a Director of Business Development. Reporting directly to the company Chief Operating Officer (COO), provides expertise in building, leading and managing high performance teams focused on achieving corporate growth and financial performance objectives while delivering exceptional customer satisfaction.
The Director of Business Development will plan and recommend management and marketing strategies to achieve maximum customer and market penetration consistent with corporate financial objectives to drive tactical and strategic growth. They will also identify new business opportunities and working with the COO and divisional leaders develop and implement capture. The Director of Business Development may from time-to-time act as proposal manager for high-value proposals (>$25M). It is the Director of Business Developments responsibility to oversee proposal development working in cooperation with the COO.
The position may be located in Fairfax, VA, Washington, DC or Alexandria, VA. We expect weekly travel to one or more of the other locations once the current restrictions on in-person meetings are lifted. The successful candidate will also travel to visit customers, potential customers, and potential team partners. We expect travel outside the DC Metropolitan Area approximately once per quarter. This frequency could increase as the company grown.
RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE:
- Assess bid qualification, perform capture planning, be primary POC for customer engagement, analyze bid strategy, and assist in proposal management.
- Perform market research to qualify strategic business opportunities, including analysis of customer budget, capabilities required, current customer preferences, competitive environment assessments, and incumbent strengths and weaknesses
- Coordinate meetings with customers, competitors, clients, and teammates to develop market insight on requirements, acquisition strategy, acquisition timing, and contract vehicle choices
- Participate in business planning activities, to include periodic pipeline reviews, operating plan development, opportunity gate reviews, black hat sessions, win theme and discriminator workshops, and proposal reviews.
- Manage proposals >$25M.
- Oversee smaller proposal development activities
- Collaborate with other business development personnel, line managers, and project managers to support cross enterprise objectives and customer engagement
- Support overall strategic planning and aligning business pursuits/capture activities
- Possess proven ability to generate and deliver new business
