Walt Churchill’s Market is looking for a Full-time Grocery Manager for our Maumee, OH (Briarfield) location.

Job Description: 

The Grocery Department Manager is responsible for the overall performance of the Grocery Department by managing staff, maintaining inventory and ensuring the department is well stocked and well organized. Department Managers are expected to work until 6 pm 1-2 days per week.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
* Maintain a clean, organized, well-stocked department on the sales floor and stockroom.
* Assure proper stocking and rotation of all department products.
* Coordinate product additions and pricing information with vendors and department managers at other WCM locations.
* Track sales and order products to meet customer demand and increase profits.
* Maintain good vendor relations by communicating in a timely and professional manner.
* Maintain adequate inventory on all products; minimize out-of-stock and overstock products.
* Verify pricing and ensure there are no missing price tags or signage.
* Ensure incoming grocery shipments are unloaded efficiently and safely.
* Promote grocery items using announcements, special displays, signage, cross merchandising, weekly ads, and seasonal plans for end caps and shippers.
* Keep up with product and merchandising trends in the area, and implement improvements in your department that keep WCM relevant and competitive in our market (e.g., visiting other stores, visiting relevant websites, reading materials related to your product line, talking with customers, etc.)
* Control department expenses by enhancing operations, meeting budgeted goals and controlling shrink.
* Determine optimal staffing levels and schedule staff for full coverage.
* Delegate work for maximum productivity.
* Train staff on job duties, department procedures, and proper/safe use of equipment.
* Monitor staff progress and provide feedback regularly. Coach and complete performance evaluations. If necessary, and in consultation with store manager and/or Human Resources, prepare discipline notices. Always consult with HR when considering terminating an employee.


Store Management Responsibilities:
* May be called upon to manage store in absence of Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager.
* Should be able to run the cash register, if needed.
* Should expect to close the store at least 1 night per week.


General Employee Expectations:
* Treat all customers (internal and external) with respect and dignity.
* Work for continuous improvement within scope of duties.
* Keep work area neat and free of hazards.
* Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
* Performs other duties as assigned

 
Position Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:
* Excellent people skills. Comfortable interacting with customers, vendors, staff, and peers. Able to navigate both positive and negative interactions tactfully.
* Organizational Skills. Ability to set objectives, anticipate changes, structure tasks, and establish priorities.
* Leadership Skills. Adept at motivating others to achieve department goals.
* Sales Skills. Skilled at merchandising product and selling to customers by providing excellent service and recommending complementary products.
* Ability to travel to trade shows, seminars and other retailers.


Education and Experience:
* High school diploma or GED and previous grocery retail experience required.
* Previous experience in Grocery Department management, preferred.
* Experience with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel), preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:
* Prolonged periods standing, walking, lifting and reaching.
* Must be able to lift 15-40 pounds frequently, and occasionally 70 pounds. Must be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds.
