The medical assistant may also be required to perform administrative duties in the front office and medical records. The work is varied and fast paced, requiring the ability to listen thoroughly and multi-task. Attention to detail is critical in the safety of the patient and staff. Other duties may be assigned.   Position Requirements Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an approved medical assisting program or EMT Certification. Experience: preferred one year medical assisting experience in an ambulatory/clinical setting Certification Preferred from one of the following nationally recognized organizations: American Medical Technologists American Association of Medical Assistants National Association for Health Professionals National Healthcareer Association National Center for Competency Testing or ABR-OE – Assessment-based Recognition in Order Entry from the AAMA or ability to receive within 30 days of hire. Current State Laboratory Certification if collecting and/or handling specimens. Current CPR certification.   Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of electronic medical records. Knowledge of CLIA and OSHA guidelines. Knowledge of sterilization and disinfection procedures. Knowledge of HIPAA laws and ability to adhere to confidentiality policies. Knowledge of current medical assistant best practices and procedures including EKG and basic drugs. Knowledge of medical and pharmacology terminology and medical office procedures. Working knowledge of medical database computer programs and basic Microsoft office products. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, professional journals, business periodicals, and/or government regulations. Ability to use electronic communications and internet resources. Ability to operate common office and medical equipment Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical concepts and interpret measurements. Ability to interpret and read documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to identify and apply proper communication methods in patient instruction. Skills to implement good safety practices that prevent exposure to known workplace hazards and the necessary action needed when exposed Skills to operate a computer to effectively work in the electronic medical record. Skill in applying and modifying principles, methods and techniques of a medical assistant to provide ongoing patient care. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent telephone and customer service skills. Strong attention to detail skills.
