Child and Family Mental Health Professional

Overview:

We are excited to announce that we have an opening for an experienced Child and Family Mental Health Specialist to join our team. The Lower Elwha Klallam Mental Health Program provides culturally relevant services to people of all ages in the Lower Elwha Klallam community, and to other Natives in the vicinity. The Child and Family Mental Health professional will primarily serve children aged 12 and under and their families, providing assessment, treatment, and coordination of care with other professionals, and will participate in community prevention and support activities.

Work Location: Health Department

Supervised by: Mental Health Program Manager

Position Status: Full time Permanent Position

Salary Level: DOQ

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 to 5:00 with

some flexibility for special events

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must have a master's degree in counseling, marriage and family counseling, social work, or closely related field.
  2. Must be a Licensed Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Counselor, or qualify as a licensed associate.
  3. Must have 2 years of professional experience working with children, some of which may have been obtained prior to completion of a master's degree.
  4. Must be knowledgeable of child developmental stages, and of how to choose interventions appropriate to a child's developmental level and skills.
  5. Must have experience using at least 2 different child therapy modalities appropriate to young children, and be able to articulate when and how to involve parents in child therapy.
  6. Must be able and willing to team with teachers, children's protective services, Indian Child Welfare, and others who serve our clients.
  7. Must be able to articulate an understanding of Native culture and of some of the cultural strengths and challenges impacting Native children and families.
  8. Must be able to comply with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe's Drug Free Workplace policy.
 
Position Requirements

Essential Functions of the Position:

  1. Works as part of a mental health teams to participate in meeting the objectives of the Mental Health Program.
  2. Participates in weekly team meetings to receive and offer professional enrichment and development.
  3. Works primarily with children aged 12 and under, and their families, however, may occasionally work with teenagers or adults.
  4. Participates in case presentations by presenting cases and giving feedback to others.
  5. Provides assessments that meet auditing requirements, and allow for DSM diagnosis, and identifies child and family specific strengths and needs, and documents accordingly.
  6. Develops individual and family specific treatment plans that are culturally relevant and make use of a child’s natural supports.
  7. Completes all documentation for client files in a prompt and accurate manner.
  8. Works to increase resilience and minimize risk factors when working with children, families, and their natural environments.
  9. Complies with all program specific, state, and federal confidentiality policies and laws.
  10. Communicates with other agencies and professionals in a respectful, coherent manner in an effort to maintain positive working relationships and clear expectations.
  11. Responds to phone calls, emails, and other communication in a timely manner for the benefit of clients and to maintain positive clients, families, colleagues, and other professionals.
  12. Provides individual and family psychotherapy, and maintains a schedule that includes time for case management tasks.
  13. Provides group counseling and psychoeducation for children and parents.
  14. Strives to meet the requirement of 50 to 55% billable work hours for therapists who primarily work with children. This allows time for case management activities.
  15. Participates in program planning and development as needed, specifically as relate to developing services for children.
  16. Seeks consultation from peers and supervisor as needed.
  17. Participates in individual and group supervision.
  18. Consults with and teams with other members of the Lower Elwha Health Department.
  19. Performs other duties as requested.

    Other Considerations:
  1. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  2. Must be able to pass a substance use screen.
  3. Some flexibility in work hours may occasionally be needed.
