Job Description

Academic Support Tutor Middle School Students

OVERVIEW: The person selected for this position must work well with middle school aged students as well as their parents or guardians. The person selected must have a professional approach and conduct themselves as such when working collaboratively with Port Angeles School District Staff as well as Lower Elwha Klallam tribal staff.

WORK LOCATION: Student Center, 322 Stratton Rd., Port Angeles, WA 98363

SUPERVISED BY: Education Director

POSITION STATUS: Full-time; 40 hours

SALARY LEVEL: $21.00 hourly

WORK SCHEDULE: 2-3 days onsite/2-3 days working remotely

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Provide direct tutoring services, guidance and tutorial services to Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe's Native American children in middle school (7th/8th) grades as needed within the context of COVID-19 restrictions and social distancing.
  • Must have knowledge of Google Classroom the platform used by the PASD while students are working remotely during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
  • Attend coordination meetings with PASD, LEKT Admin and the support personnel set up at the Student Support Center.
  • Work competently with tribal youth and adults.
  • Assures ongoing communication with Education Director regarding activities offered at the Student Center, including any additional support that maybe needed.
  • Check in regularly with supervisor and provide regular status reports.
  • Coordinate and work closely with the student supports; i.e., AmeriCorps Volunteers and any additional support that maybe involved with the Student Support Center.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED required; AA or BA desirable. Will consider an applicant in the education process.
  • Valid WA State driver's license and have a good driving record
  • First Aid and Child CPR Card.
  • Pass Criminal History Background check (no felonies, or child related offenses).
  • Must be able to comply with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Drug Free Workplace policies.
  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to be a sensitive and mature individual who relates well to others.
  • Ability to develop trusting relationships with middle school students and their parents/guardians
  • Ability to establish & maintain positive professional relationships with Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal co-workers, Port Angeles School District co-workers, students, and parents.
  • Ability to guide & facilitate learning for middle school students.
