Therapeutic Support Staff- NCSTART- Night Shift

Please read: This position requires Weekend availabilty. This position is an overnight position; the hours are 10pm- 8am. The salary for this position is: Between $14-$16 an hour depending on education and experience.

Position Summary:

START Center Counselor provides support to persons with co-occurring developmental disabilities and mental or behavioral health needs who are temporarily accessing the START Center for crisis or planned crisis stabilization. This staff participates in the daily routine of the home and provides support for habilitative activities, personal care, health care and other activities. START counselors also help ensure a therapeutic environment at the START Center. START Center Counselors participate as part of comprehensive START model services that collaborate with individual's primary provider and clinical home, community crisis services, family and others.

Essential Job Functions:

•Assists individuals with daily activities, personal care, behavioral health needs, physical health, overall wellness, and leisure activities in a direct care capacity

•Orients new Center guests/individuals to the home, program policies, rules and activities.

•Establishes rapport with guests with intellectual disabilities and challenging behaviors, while maintaining respect for each consumer's dignity, individuality and right to confidentiality.

•Maintains professional boundaries with guests and follows ethical and licensing guidelines.

•Monitors individuals/guests for any mental health or behavioral symptoms and provides crisis prevention, intervention and de-escalation supports in accordance with the START model and the individual's crisis prevention plan.

•Participates in development and implementation of individuals' cross system crisis prevention plan.

•Plans, structures and prompts social and leisure time activities, including activities that build skills self-regulation, stress management, communication, adaptive living and daily living.

•Serves as a positive representative for agency with other professionals, families and the community.

•Maintains timely documentation, progress notes, and other data, including incident and accident reports.

•Responds to individual safety needs, including reporting significant changes in behavior and health.

•Communicates with other staff and supervisor on progress, needs, concerns and changes.

•Performs housekeeping duties as assigned, including meal preparation in accordance with individual dietary needs and preferences.

•Adheres to program standards and policies as well as local, state and federal regulations

•Assists with discharge planning.

•Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Bachelor's Degree (human services field preferred) from an accredited institution

Recent College Graduates interested in pursuing Graduate Level Programs in Social Work/Psychology/OT/PT or Nursing encouraged to apply

Direct support experience with both developmental disabilities and mental health populations preferred

Experience with crisis prevention and intervention services preferred

Maintain valid license and insurance for personal vehicles utilized for work

Complete within specified time period the trainings as required by agency and service model
