Description

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is a professional Registered Nurse who has developed managerial skills through experience and/or education and who possesses nursing expertise in the clinical area. She/he is directly responsible to the Director of Nursing as she/he endeavors to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for all residents.

Requirements

  • Must be a registered nurse (RN) with a Kentucky license in good standing.   
  • Must have at least one year of long term care experience in a leadership role. Must have proven leadership success.  
  • Experience creating collaboration with other departments and ability to organize, plan and direct nursing service is key. 
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm to communicate effectively with residents in all levels of care, family members and employees.   
  • Must be able to assume the position of Director of Nursing during the Director’s absence.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for clinical outcomes of the facility including but not limited to these areas:
  • Falls program
  • QM management
  • Re-hospitalization rates
  • Wound Program
  • Clinical At Risk
  • Co-chair Nutrition at Risk & Hydration program
  • Oversee Quality Assurance for Nursing Outcomes
  • Oversee Bowell and Bladder Program
  • Management of Matrix and Census and Condition reports
  • Assumes delegated managerial responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
  • Supports the policies and procedures of the Nursing Service.
  • Participates in committees to evaluate and improve standards of resident care.
  • Plans, directs and supervises all nursing care.
  • Collaborates with medical staff through informal and formal meetings.
  • Communicates resident conditions to the Director of Nursing.
  • Assist in planning, organizing and directing nursing service.
  • Control and evaluation of nursing service in order to meet the total nursing needs of the resident and maintain quality of life that will fulfill the objectives of the facility and be in accordance with the policies set forth by the facility.
  • Plan and participate in in-service training and orientation programs.
  • Make routine rounds to ensure residents are properly cared for.??????

Functions

  • Work hand in hand with ADON’s on each household to manage outcomes.
  • Assumes responsibility for individual resident care when needed.
  • Gives nursing care as a teaching-learning device.
  • Plans, supervises and evaluates total resident needs, nursing care and progress by making daily rounds.
  • Provides assistance, direction and teaching of nursing care to all nursing personnel.
  • Establishes working relationships with physicians to develop, coordinate and render medical treatment and nursing care.
  • Is knowledgeable in the use of medicines and in the operation of sophisticated equipment used on the nursing units.
  • Supervises and directs preparation and maintenance of residents clinical records.
  • Promotes progressive approach to nursing care specific to her area of responsibility. Participates in resident health education and rehabilitation.
  • Follows Plan of Care as ordered by physician.
  • Assigns duties to ancillary and professional personnel based on resident needs, staff and unit needs.
  • Promotes staff development by encouraging personnel to attend education classes and seminars.
  • Evaluates individual work performance through observation and written evaluation.
  • Provides for and promotes good communication within and between the units.
  • Reports equipment in need of repair, completing work orders as necessary.
  • Continuously evaluates the needs and services related to nursing service and resident care.
  • Works with consultants, dietary, pharmacist, etc. as needed.
  • Review complaints and grievances and report to the Director of Nursing.

Works 40 hours per week as assigned and on call when necessary. Some overtime can be expected.
